(New York) City Council Favors Pregnancy Center Disclosures
Source: The New York Times

The City Council passed a bill on Wednesday seeking more transparency from crisis pregnancy centers that present themselves as medical clinics but that critics say offer little more than pregnancy tests and counseling intended to steer women away from abortions.

“The goal of this bill is to ensure that women are fully informed and not deceived,” the Council speaker, Christine C. Quinn, said. “Women need to know, they have a right to know, whether they are consulting with a licensed medical provider.”

A spokeswoman for Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg, Evelyn Erskine, said the mayor would sign the bill in the coming weeks.

Under the legislation, centers would be required to disclose whether they provide abortions or emergency contraception and if they have a licensed medical provider on site.

2. I just wrote to our paper about this today
Last August, one of the local free weeklys ran an article on our CPC, which quoted the "Counselor" who trains the other "counselors" as hearing God speaking to her, buying booties for her dead fetus and reading it bedtime stories. Out here in the real world, we call that "psychosis". "Counselor" training is a Bible study course and prayer group.
The ultrasound tech proudly talked about how she administered the ultrasound, then immediately began pressuring the woman for a decision on what she would be doing with the pregnancy.
I wouldn't send my dog to be counseled by these lunatics. Utah, however, seems to feel that our local abortion providers- who have failed to harm a single person- are what we need to fear and need more oversight. And much, much higher fees. And more inspections.

3. I think it was The Nation a few years ago that had an article
about how these are also a front sometimes for a high-priced "Christian" adoption ring.
