Sheriff deputies find live ammunition outside Capitol

State Journal staff | (15) Comments | Posted: Thursday, March 3, 2011 1:33 pm

Dozens of rounds of live ammunition were found outside the Capitol Thursday morning, law enforcement officials said.

Dane County deputies found 11 rounds near the State street entrance Thursday morning, said UW-Madison Police Chief Susan Riseling. Twenty-nine rounds were found near the King Street entrance, and one round was found near the North Hamilton Street entrance, Riseling said.

Department of Administration lawyer Steven Means is asking that the Capitol be cleared for a security check.

Riseling said all the bullets were 22-caliber long rifle hollow points. Officers were conducting a sweep of the grassy areas and bushes outside the Capitol.

13. Yes, obvious plant
We're had thousands of peaceful demonstrators pass through the Capitol building without incident - not even an arrest.

Suddenly, the day after they install metal detectors for entrance into the Capitol, they "find" this.

So now they have "proof" they needed to do it.

Who would suspect otherwise?

Especially after the Governor admitted that "they considered" injecting provocateurs into the peaceful demonstrations, regardless of risk to the public, including children.

3. Sounds like one of those Rovian plots the governor
was 'considering' when he talked to the fake Koch brother.

A way to clear the capitol for security reasons.

Sounds like the far right teaparty crowd paid a visit.

4. This is just an excuse to bar protestors from the area.
Walker is shameless. He just doesn't want to have to admit that he has lost the public's support.

5. If that's supposed to be some kind of threat, it's a pretty pathetic one.
.22 LR rounds are inadequate for anything larger than a rabbit.

desperation is setting-in for King Walker and is Court. He he in a crimson mood? He did admit to contemplating shenanigans of these sorts in his conversation with the pseudo-Koch.

9. This is Wisconsin.
Lots of protesters wear hunting jackets. Hunters just forget to empty their pockets when they come inside.

Edited on Thu Mar-03-11 03:29 PM by CLANG
I hope someone rat's out whoever did this or who ordered it!

Oh, and the "hunters" just happened to drop 11 rounds near the State street entrance, 29 rounds were found near the King Street entrance, and one round was found near the North Hamilton Street entrance.

11. A plant
and not a good one, either. While any bullet can be lethal, .22-LR rounds are some of the lightweights of the gun world. Handguns of that caliber are frequently used as target guns. There are long guns that fire them, like the Ruger 10-22, but they are light hunting guns for small game. Shooting anything bigger than a healthy raccoon with one is animal abuse--it would be difficult to get a single kill shot.

Hollow points mean they can cause more damage, but come on.

JoDog--target shooter and owner of a handgun that fires .22 LR rounds.

12. So someone plans to *throw* long rifle hollow points at people? . . .
How fearful should I be of a marksman so incompetent he can't keep his rounds secure?

Pathetic attempt to spread panic and fear.

that Walker has taxpayers funding. He's going to get burned for locking the capitol so he needed to manufacture an excuse.

18. What possible reason could there be for this other than as a plant to stir up fear and suspicion?
If someone was going to start shooting, wouldn't they just carry their ammo? Why dump it in various places around the building?

22. Pretty pathetic plant attempt. "Do'h - look at me. I'm a dumbfuck union guy. Can't hold my ammo."
Bloobly-boodle goobley-grum.

If the idiots wanted to plant something believable, they should have gone with handgun ammo. Of course, the FOX drones will believe anything.

30. There are .22 LR handguns.
Though they generally suck. They're not usually sufficient to kill someone, they're more an "Injure them and run like hell." kind of weapon. If they really wanted to gin up fear they should have dropped large rifle rounds (.223, .308, .30-06, etc) near a tall building.

Of course the same Faux news that insisting carrying automatic high powered rifles in the vicinity of the president was a 2nd amendment right will scream like banshees about Union Assassins or something.

28. If it were a Teabagger Rally at an Obama Town Hall meeting...
...people would be allowed to carry the live ammunition in firearms carried in holsters and no GOP officals would be calling for the area to be cleared for a security check.

It's rather glaring the different treatment afforded these events depending on the political leanings of the participants.

The ammo was placed there by the protesters...because it would make it look like it was obvious that Walker had it planted there...to make the protesters look bad.

Yeah...that's the ticket!

33. Sounds like the Koch brothers
and one of their teabagger minions, idiotic little tactics. We're on to you and your games you pathetic pigs. Gov Walker thinks about putting thugs into peaceful protests, GOP FOX Fraudcasting lies constantly about what is happening and one of their sheep, drops some rounds of ammunition to create a story in the minds of their mindless rabble. Nice try, you'd think with all those billions, they could come up with something better than busing in fake protesters, rigging the crowds and dropping bullets on the ground.
We all know the game now and those of us who were asleep, are awakening, the Kochs and their useful idiots just haven't realized it yet.
