Rachel Maddow Beats Glenn Beck In Key Demo

Glenn BeckGlenn Beck’s star has been fading for most of the last year. He has lost about half of his television audience. His radio ratings have also been declining leading to stations dropping his program in big markets like New York, Philadelphia, and Madison. His most recent book, “Broke,” was the first in eight years to fail to hit number one on the New York Times bestseller list. Over 300 advertisers regard him as toxic and will not permit their ads to air during his program.

Yesterday, another milestone was reached. http://www.mediabistro.com/tvnewser/cable-news-ratings-thursday-march-3_b55891 The Rachel Maddow Show on MSNBC drew 39,000 more viewers in the key advertising demographic of 25-54 year olds. Beck did manage to draw more total viewers, but even that statistic is revealing. It shows that Beck’s audience is comprised of only 21% of the young demo. That compares to Maddow’s 31%.

This is further evidence of Beck’s accelerating collapse. Last week it was reported that Beck declined 32% (25-54) and 26% (total viewers) year-to-year for the month of February. And that’s on top of a January year-to-year drop of 50% (25-54) and 40% (total viewers).

The public is obviously tiring of this manic-paranoid’s freak show. As a result, many staunch conservatives are becoming bolder with regard to their criticisms of Beck. And some are even recognizing that Beck may be just the tip of the iceberg and that anyone who hitches their wagon to Beck is equally deserving of ridicule and revulsion. That applies particularly to Beck’s primary benefactors, Roger Ailes and Rupert Murdoch, but also to those who work with and/or defend Beck. They will all learn that this stench is unremitting.

2. Great News:)
News like this gives me hope that the people are not as idiotic as they seem... If someone can watch Beck and not think he is insane then they are insane. Rachel is out of this world good and hopefully more people will see this when they tune her in.

Congratulations Rachel:yourock:

4. This is so skewed. Big difference between 5 and 9PM demos.
Sure, The Clown is in big (and deservedly so) decline, but this is apples and oranges. Time slot is so critical.

But, hey, kudos to Maddow.

10. When you consider that Beck's audience
is comprised of old, angry white people who are dieing from Beck induced fear and stress, it's just a matter of time until he's talking to himself.

Since the Communist Party assumed power in the US, his blood pressure went up to 190/110.

Sorry for the expletives but this gal has got it going on. The show tonight was so impressive. She's cutting to the chase and finding the facts like a true journalist should. The small c conservative segment in regards to the Wyoming State Govt and an anti gay bill was an eye opener. Highly recommended.

14. Not very comparable. Maddow 8pm, Beck 5pm - more sets-in-use at 8pm
Share of time period is a better measure.

Rachel's doing well, but nowhere near Beck, if you measure on share of audience tuned in to cable news...

Maddow 21.1% of 8pm watchers
Beck 51.4% of 5pm watchers

A good summary of Beck:

Vanity Fair On Glenn Beck: ‘Incoherence isn’t a bug in Beck’s software program, it’s the primary directive’

17. I love Rachel
She doesn't scream over top of someone that she disagrees with and she knows her facts. I hate that screaming and lying on most of the shows.
