Suspect in Tucson shooting rampage enters plea (not guilty)
Source: msnbc

TUCSON, Ariz. — The suspect in the Tucson, Ariz., shooting rampage has pleaded not guilty to dozens of new federal charges that accuse him of killing six people and wounding 13 others.

Jared Lee Loughner entered the plea Wednesday to charges that included trying to assassinate U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, attempting to kill two of her aides and murdering federal judge John Roll and Giffords staffer Gabe Zimmerman.

He also is charged with causing the deaths of four others who weren't federal employees, causing injury and death to participants at a federally provided activity and using a gun in a crime of violence.

1. how can he do this?...
he is the epitome of caught red handed. not guilty by reason of insanity, right to a fair trial etc. I will wager that he is just trying to milk his 15 minutes further via a mockery of the system. I predict that he will fire his attorney and try to represent himself.

4. Tucson gunman pleads not guilty on all charges
Source: Raw Story

Jared Loughner, the gunman accused of trying to assassinate a US congresswoman and killing six people in Tucson, pleaded not guilty to all 49 new charges against him Wednesday.

He entered the pleas in his first court appearance in Tucson itself, after prosecutors announced new indictments against him last week following the January 8 Arizona shooting spree.

...

Dressed in a tan prison jump suit, his hair grown out since his last court appearance, Loughner sat, showing little reaction, as Judge Burns heard a lengthy argument seeking public access to records in the case.

11. May sound like it - but he's not - even though a repug registration
for him was faked in an effort to say he was.

http://www.aolnews.com/2011/01/11/jared-loughner-suspect-in-giffords-shooting-was-registered-as/
"Republicans and Democrats are battling over the political identity of Jared Loughner, but the suspected Tucson gunman is actually a registered independent,
according to Pima County voting records.

http://no-dictator-needed.blogspot.com/2011/01/jared-loughner-political-affiliation.html
"For the record, this punk was actually registered as an Independent according to Chris Roads, Pima County's registrar of voters. So naturally,we now have the
bigger right-wing websites having a hissy fit and calling out the Liberals for posting what is definitely a fake pic of Jerad’s voter registration."

http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-503544_162-20028120-503544.html
...investigators examining Loughner's computer files and phone records have thus far found no evidence that he has a specific connection to any hate or fringe
group."

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jared_Lee_Loughner "
Classmates identified Loughner as a nihilist and atheist, and noted that he was critical of religion."

13. no, no... that's not my point... his plead was very republican
I could care less how he's registered, he is acting like a republican who never takes any responsibility for his crimes.

14. Evading criminal responsibility appears to have a long history
of being non-partisan - unless you can find a long list of Dems who say "I'm a bad boy, please jail me." I haven't yet run across one but if you have one, feel free to post it.

12. A criminal charge in order to be proved
Edited on Wed Mar-09-11 08:44 PM by ProudDad
must also include intent...

Since the bad chemicals in Mr. Loughner's brain, over which he had NO control, that made him crazy and made him do what he's alleged to have done, he is innocent of having intent...

So, yes, Innocent is the ONLY plea he could submit...

He should be treated as a mentally ill person not murdered by the State...

16. The "bad chemicals" - or not - are for a jury to decide and should
not be considered as proven fact. And even if he has some, they don't necessarily rise to the level of insanity - maybe they just made him pissed off.

17. They all plead not guilty at arraignment and preliminary hearings
Next, the defense will try to have evidence and statements thrown out to make their thug look like he didn't do it.
