Righthaven accuses defendant (DU) of running up legal fees in copyright case

Las Vegas copyright enforcement company Righthaven LLC is complaining that one of its litigation foes is needlessly running up legal costs that Righthaven may end up paying for.

... The latest dispute between Righthaven and the Democratic Underground emerged Friday, when Democratic Underground attorneys with the Electronic Frontier Foundation said new evidence had surfaced that would bolster their case.

... In a victory for the Democratic Underground, Chief U.S. District Judge for Nevada Roger Hunt on Tuesday allowed the Democratic Underground to supplement its pleadings with the new evidence.

... Righthaven said the Democratic Underground’s motion to use the new evidence amounts to “litigation overkill.”

ballpark. This is the only way they can make money since this is going to be very costly and take a very long time to fight in court and chances are excellent that Righthaven will not only lose, they'll be assessed the legal fees and probably damages.

At some point, they'll start to squeal in real pain and withdraw the suit. They absolutely do not want this to go to court.

I'm more or less a "conservo-libertarian" (as opposed to a "liberaltarian"), and don't often see things the same way as most of the folks on DU. So I'm not a commenter here. But I like to give credit where credit is due. And so I registered to do just that.

And "that" is to say,"BRAVO!!!" to you about your battle with the bottom-feeders of the American justice system, Righthaven. Oh, man, when I saw they were whining about how unfair it was to run up legal costs, well, that was a coffee-out-the-nose moment. Your girding of the loins and getting ready for battle has given heart to the thousands of website owners who live in terror of a guerilla legal attack by the buccaneers of Righthaven. You have shown that the only way to deal with a bully is to give the coward a bloody nose.

If there is such a thing as perfect justice, then after inflicting AND amassing truly staggering legal costs, you will win your case and be awarded all prayed-for relief, including having your costs underwritten by the swine at RH; which will hopefully result in DU moving into new digs at the former offices of Righthaven and Stephens Media. After all, it's just no fun battling a bunch of sleazeballs unless you get to dance in their blood. I hope you do.

The linked article is hilarious. In one breath they're whining because DU won't just let them drop the whole thing and go away quietly without their having to pay for the financial damages they've inflicted.
