Pakistani lawmaker: Women mentally torture men
Source: CBS News

A male Pakistani lawmaker has drawn jeers for proposing a committee to stop the "mental torture" of men by women.

Jam Tamachi Unar suggested the idea Thursday, after the assembly in Sindh province resolved to create a panel to investigate the torture of women in the country's rural areas.

The proposal drew shouts of "Shame!" from female assembly members. Most of the women stormed out of the session, while some of the men laughed.

Unar told The Associated Press that he was only joking but that it's a "bitter truth that the same way women are tortured in rural areas, men are the victims of mental torture in urban neighborhoods."

2. He's a typical patriarch, equating simple disagreement with torture
because he sees women as children whom he should be able to dictate opinions and behavior to.

He's got a lot of company here in the US.

4. What I find startling about his statments is
He compares what women go through in the rural (and sometimes urban) areas in Pakistan. The rapes, ACTUAL torture, cut limbs, ears, noses etc. with some slight he has seen or felt against a man's 'authority' in the home or in society. There just is NO comparison IMO. He may have been speaking flippantly when he said this, as it says several of the men in the chamber laughed, but it certainly does not excuse him or their overly patriarchal society.

In this country an 11 year old is gang raped in TX by at least 18 boys and men.

Egyptian women asking for equal rights on Intl. Women's Day are chased by an angry mob who yells at them that their place is in the home.

And now some a-hole lawmaker in Pakistan is claiming that women mentally torture men?????

I just don't know if to laugh or start crying.

I would like to know in which century will girls and women finally achieve equal rights? Hell, we are over half of the population of the world. It is time we stood up for ourselves as one voice.

6. Can you imagine a general strike of all women?
The planet would stop spinning on its axis.

7. + 10
It reminds me of a woman I read about who asked, in response to the "she asked for it"

response to rape.

"Why do they say 'we asked for it -- because we have breasts'"?:eyes:

11. Exactly...
I remember telling this story to a male friend at the time....You won't

believe what he told me...He said that when he was youngish, twelve

or thirteen, he thought women deliberately grew breasts to tempt men!

Honest..and this was a very smart, progressive guy...I assume he

was at least the former when he was young.
