Teachers, firefighters, cops target M&I with boycott (bank closes doors)
Source: Milwaukie Wisconsin Sentinal Journal

Teachers, firefighters and police officers said they would begin a boycott of M&I Bank if the bank does not begin publicly opposing Gov. Scott Walker's efforts to curtail collective bargaining for public workers.

Unions representing those groups said they would start other boycotts of businesses that backed Walker in his campaign.

I have seen posts that the firemen withdrew all their money today and one of the branches closed over it! This bank is a big supporter of Scott Walker.

French Revolution in reverse. Middle class slobs demanding those other middle class slobs be brought down a few pegs. And the republicans laugh at how easy this is.

horrid...all coming from the little cubicles located at the Heritage Foundation in DC. The occupants of the cubicles get maybe $12 to $15/hour. They'd love to be part of a Union, but they're just too afraid.

99. I have a friend who blogs for a small Wisconsin newspaper
(in the community section, where just about anyone can start a blog). Anyway, she moderates and gets to approve comments before they are published, and she knows for certain, for sure, that the most hateful, right wing, anti-teacher, anti-union comments come from out of state. And they post multiple responses from multiple user names.

This isn't to say that there are not those type of opinions out there, but that the opposition is organized, and perhaps paid, and definitely committed to destroying what is left of the middle class. Her feeling is that, from the the choice of wording and sentence structure, they are older teabagger types. Think the Glenn Beck rallies.

these Republicons with their Koch Klan and their Supreme Court and their bought and paid for media are not going to give up their fight, so we cannot give up ours. Yesterday is just their next step in taking everything for themselves at our expense. They need to be stopped and only we, in mass, can stop this right wing radical sickness from spreading and killing off all of our futures.

Newbie creates uproar. :) But never count the newbie's out. And right now we really need some humor. Or the Right wing will win. They want us to do something stupid. They don't want us to sing etc. They want us to push others around. So hey if the newbie attracted attention. Groovy. I remember M&I barely. Been just over a decade since I last lived in Wisconsin. Sure did miss it. Right now.. Illinois seems to be a better spot to go.

http://www.dane101.com/current/2011/03/10/firefighters_target_mi_bank_for_executive_support_of_walker

on edit, quoting:
Update 3 p.m.: A call to M&I's Capitol Square branch confirms the bank is closed for the rest of the day.
When the firefighters arrived at the Capitol this morning they started the chant "MOVE YOUR MONEY!" Firefighters Local 311 President Joe Conway told the audience they should move their money out of M&I Bank. The bank was one of the leading contributors to the Walker campaign due to contributions by current and former executives and board members. Detailed contributions are available via the Wisconsin Democracy Campaign. In a statement to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel last month the bank said "Individual employees may choose, at their own discretion and based on their political beliefs, to make contributions to political campaigns."

41. This is how to do it. We can do this on a national scale and stop republican
supporting corporations from taking over our government and take our country back through general strikes and focused boycotts.

Wisconsin Democrats have done brought me back to the party. After Dems extended the Bu*h tax breaks for the wealthy I was finished with Senate Democrats (particularly Reid) and Obama as well. Wisconsin Dems made me remember why I had been a proud yellowdog Democrat all my life. At this point, I still have no faith in Reid, the rest of the corporatist Senators, and Obama.

If they want my support they need to start acting like my new heroes, the Democratic State Senators of Wisconsin.

61. Well, I just discovered that this info is a lot more difficult to find now
that BuyBlue.org is no longer operational and since the SCOTUS decided that corporations could make anonymous donations. But it is not just the banks that need to be boycotted, it is all corporations that support anti-democratic politicians like Walker.

Walmart is an easy place to start if you are new to boycotting right wing businesses.

57. Mixed thoughts on this
This would probably be a good tactic to keep banks from supporting candidates that the union opposes, but at the time of the donations the unions supported Walker. If you wield punitive power like that you have to let prospective targets know what decisions will arouse your ire ahead of time to be an effective deterrent, and in this case they are punishing someone for endorsing their own candidate.

60. Another link (to the Wisconsin State Journal article)
http://host.madison.com/wsj/news/local/govt-and-politics/article_a2066e24-4b83-11e0-ad9e-001cc4c002e0.html

M&I Bank cites safety concerns, but I suspect the real reason is that they can't cover the withdrawals. They'll probably have to ask Snott Walker for a bailout.

But First this one :

The Internationale

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zk69e1Vcmvg

Europe is watching you and will support via ILO!

In order to support you mentally,I found this song, by Anne Feeney

She made it for the Union Song Contest - great initiative - where you can find more. I put the link here.

"War on the Workers"

http://members.unionsongcontest.org/entries#47275

Submitted by: Anne Feeney

She stated: "
This song sums up, for me, the experience of working people ever since PATCO. It *is* a war on workers, unions, health and safety standards, the environment, public education, social security - the legacy our parents and grandparents gave to us through their sacrifices. It's time we started calling the shots again!"

68. The Achilles heal of these right wing pricks is that they failed to notice that the people they are

are attacking are their customers. Credit Unions should
get behind the workers and leave the banksters sucking
eggs.

They want a plutocracy.....let's hit them where it hurts.

I think a general strike of several days is in order. And while there is a strike and protestes around the capitol-how about circulating some recall petitions...this is what Democracy looks like.

81. good idea, but...
Choose your targets wisely. Will there be collateral damage? Will you turn the public against you? Be careful. Think it through. Recalls would seem to be the best actual solution. Don't mess those up by turning the public against you. Good luck!!

but I wish they could wage a strike across the entire state. I'd like to see all these asshats who don't want to pay for the services provided, be really forced to live without them, and then see if they are willing to keep talking so big about how over paid the people who provide them are!

If banks in those states are also on board with this destructive right wing wave, it'd be a good time to take them down a few notches as well. Thank you to Wisconsin citizens for demonstrating how to deal with these "people" (aka corporations).
