Florida Republicans join march to target unions

TALLAHASSEE -- With a national wind at their back and a Republican majority in their grip, the Florida Legislature is going after unions.

Only days into this year’s session, House and Senate lawmakers have taken up three bills that would weaken the teacher’s labor organization, restrict the political clout of all public unions, and reduce the benefits of all state workers.

On Thursday, a House committee voted 12-6 along party lines for a bill that prevents public unions from using payroll deductions to collect union dues. The Senate passed a teacher pay bill that, among other things, eliminates tenure for teachers hired after July 1 and ties their pay to student performance. And both chambers are moving bills that restrict the collective bargaining clout of unions.

Union representatives say the bevy of bills shows that the Republican-controlled Legislature is capitalizing on a national anti-union sentiment.

Once again, we are being force fed the corporate media narrative of blaming public employees, unions, Democrats, President Obama, etc., while giving Republicans, corporations, and the corporate-fed media a free pass.

It is okay for executives to get millions of dollars in stock options as they run their companies into the ground, but god forbid that American workers demand a living wage and decent benefits. We are being trained to attack the middle class, and our Democratic allies, and cheer on or admire our oppressors and the Republicans who represent them.

In Florida, you have a Governor who made millions in health care exploiting lack of insurance coverage by pushing urgent care center. Now, he wants to join the Republican spread the misery band wagon.

2. I work for the state and my wages are low

the people who are in management (non-union) are making all the big money, and if your average pay of state workers includes management, it is all skewed to their side.

They play with the numbers and say it's all union thuggery at work.
