MANILA, March 11 (Xinhua) -- The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) is advising residents near the east coast to evacuate to higher grounds as tsunami will hit the Philippines at around 05:00 p.m. to 07:00 p.m. local time.
Phivolcs has already raised the tsunami alert to level 2 which means mandatory evacuation in eastern coastal areas.
Local media ABS-CBN News said police are already going around schools in Batanes in Northern Philippines, telling school children and teachers to go to higher grounds.
Phivolcs said the tsunami that is expected to hit the Philippines is around one meter or less in height, although the succeeding waves may be bigger.
