Republican Sen. Lisa Murkowski Comes out in Defense of Planned Parenthood
Edited on Fri Mar-11-11 07:07 PM by SkyDaddy7
Source: Politico

Sen. Lisa Murkowski of Alaska has come out in opposition to the House’s attempts to defund Planned Parenthood, making her the first Republican senator to do so.

“I believe Planned Parenthood provides vital services to those in need and disagree with their funding cuts in the bill,” Murkowski wrote in a letter to Senate Appropriations Committee Chairman Daniel Inouye (D-Hawaii) and Vice Chairman Thad Cochran (R-Miss.). “I ask you to consider these programs going forward to determine if there is room for allowing continued funding.”

3. I do think that perhaps her experience
with Joe Miller has adjusted her attitude a bit. She got to see first-hand what it's like to be under attack from the wingnuttiest of the wingnuts.

23. Not just Miller, but her own party.
They threw her under the bus. They also forgot that part about a woman scorned. I almost wonder if she'll be the rethug's Liebermann.

24. She has a history of womens and childrens issues
from the beginning. I know her and she is a person who tries to do the right things for women and children and natives and maybe sometimes even for the poor. Many rank and file repugs here hate her. That is why miller made such inroads during the last election. She has sneeringly been called a liberal by many members of her own party. I consider her a misguided moderate...

5. We need to support these middle of the road republicans!
After the DADT I sent a thank you to every one of the republicans who voted for the repeal.

These are the people we want to work with! Supporting them, even in the most basic of ways, saying thank you when they do something nice for us, is essential.

Otherwise all they hear is from the far right hating on them. Someone needs to say thank you!

10. A good representative represents ALL her peeps...not just the Republicans
I'm just as OK with a middle of the road democrat voting R sometimes. If there state is on that bubble, they should be too.

9. As a woman, I thank her. I'm glad she no longer is beholden to the R's because it seems
that she's now looking at issues with an open mind. She must be feeling relieved to have a more "independent" role in deciding for herself. For those baggers who condemn her for this stance, I hope they might eventually repulse her enough to caucus with the Democrats.

12. You don't get screwed-in this case by her fellow Republicans, without going away with a new sense
of independance.
Good for her for coming out and defending things she believes in.

But she did swing some votes out way last December.

Teabaggers are still pissed off at Lisa for raining on Miller's parade in the last election. She also voted to end DADT and therefore can't be all bad!

She might like to know Dems here can be stand-up people when SHE stands up for women.

she's only beholden to the people of Alaska, who wrote her in to her victory. Some things are common sense and this is one of them.
