Police issue alert in North Side gay slayings

By Hal Dardick and Gary Washburn
Tribune staff reporters
Published April 9, 2004

Chicago police this week issued a community alert warning North Side residents not to allow strangers in their homes under any circumstances after the apparently unrelated slayings of two gay men under similar circumstances.

The bodies of Kevin Clewer, 31, who worked at a northwest suburban factory, and Brad Nelson Winters, 38, a theater director, were found in their bedrooms with multiple stab wounds, police said.

The investigation of Clewer's murder is focusing on someone he met that night, and Winters might have been killed by someone he met and brought home, Chief of Detectives James Molloy said earlier this week.

3. some people are upset with the police
because they feel that the police were to slow in issuing an alert..at least now it`s out there, maybe someone will know something.

4. As long as they weren't married
Let's keep our minds on the big picture:

The important thing is that these two gays didn't live long enough to get married and in so doing, destroy marriage for the rest of us.

Of course, we all regret these murders, but surely they weren't inspired by any climate of vilification of gays brought about by Compassionate Conservatism's attempt to insist on the "otherness" of gays by proposing separate rights for them be enshrined in the U.S. Constitution.

No, to the contrary! We feel a Christian love for our poor, deluded gay friends, and we embrace them -- metaphorically, that is, not literally, because they probably have AIDS --, so long as those amusing fops with their great hair-cutting and decorating skills remember their place and don't get uppity.

Keep contributing to the Log Cabin Society boys, remain discreet about your abominations before God, and we promise to keep the police raids on your dens of iniquity to the minimum required to keep our Fundamentalist base content!

In the year of our Lord 2004.

5. Who said it wasn't a lovers quarrel?
Why attribute to a hate crime when it may have just been a lovers hate?

7. That seems to be the thinking.
The murders scenes must have been unusually similar. This is sick, really sick.

Be careful Chicago friends!
