Edwin McFarlane: Judge refuses to release teen accused of sex attack on school bus
Source: Orlando Sentinel

Edwin McFarlane won't be allowed to go home with his mother after he was accused of a sex attack on a Lake County school bus, a juvenile judge ruled this morning.

Judge David Eddy said the charges faced by 15-year-old Edwin are too serious, so he will be detained for now at a juvenile facility.

His Orlando attorney, Natalie Jackson, and Edwin's mother, Mildred Roman, declined comment after the judge's decision.

The Minneola teen, who was arrested Monday, said little during the hearing. He is accused of attacking a 15-year-old girl last week.

I remember the last time he was in the news. It's referenced further down in the story. Supposedly he was 'helping' a young girl find her mother in a dept. store. There was a lot of suspicion about his motives then. This seems to have validated some of those suspicions.

I'm ok with him being held in juvie for now. Unfortunately, he appears to be on the track, psychologically at least, to become a rapist, or worse.

On the other hand though, there is the possibility that all the scrutiny and pressure from the previous event triggered this crime. Too deep for me.

2. After reading the story, I'm completely OK with him being held until trial...
I'm glad they are holding him in juvenile, rather than adult jail. And I still believe in "innocent until proven guilty".

3. This reminds me of a situation that occurred several years ago where I live.
My wife was a teacher's aide at an elementary school. There was a boy there who was considered a 'problem child' by the teachers. He was constantly fondling the girls against their wishes and catching them by surprise in the cloak room. Nothing the teachers did would deter him from that behavior. His mother, a single mom, vigorously fought any attempts to have this boy disciplined or counseled by psychiatric professionals. There was a pretty serious debate that occurred among the faculty and administration regarding what should be done.

My wife left that school for other pursuits and did not keep up with what was going on with the boy.

Years later, while he was in high school, he attempted to ambush and rape a young woman jogger. When she resisted him and tried to flee, he shot her dead.

Edwin McFarlane needs to be locked up until he can be dealt with appropriately by the 'authorities'.

4. I have seen it too
Last month a neighbor boy did the same thing. Is it becoming more common or reported more often?

5. Damn!
I agree with you. These behaviors will not go away. He should stay where he is.
