Scientist confirms president was shot - Taiwan
By Jimmy Chuang
STAFF REPORTER
Saturday, Apr 10, 2004,Page 1

Following a meeting with President Chen Shui-bian (???) at the Presidential Office yesterday morning, the US-based forensic specialist Dr. Henry Lee (???) confirmed that Chen had sustained a "fresh" gunshot wound to his stomach.

"Our conversation lasted for half an hour and I confirmed that he got a fresh wound on his stomach and the wound was caused by a gunshot," Lee said at a press conference at the National Police Administration's Criminal Investigation Bureau (CIB) yesterday afternoon.

Lee said that he spent almost all day yesterday in the bureau's laboratory, inspecting, reviewing and examining the evidence collected by CIB officers. He established that the jacket Chen wore during the shooting incident bore no sign of gunshot residue.

2. Dr. Lee: Bullet came from outside the Jeep to hit Lu
By Jimmy Chuang
STAFF REPORTER
Sunday, Apr 11, 2004,Page 2

US forensic scientist Dr. Henry Lee (???) yesterday presented as fact two pieces of information about the March 19 assassination attempt on President Chen Shui-bian (???) and Vice President Annette Lu (???): that the bullet that went through the windshield of the Jeep Wrangler in which Chen and Lu were riding during the incident originated from outside the vehicle and that it was that bullet that wounded Lu.

"I discovered many pieces of debris on the windshield and on the dashboard. That means the bullet came from a location outside the vehicle.

"In addition, according to the forensic analysis we did at the scene and patient records and X-ray photos provided by the hospital, I can confirm that Lu was injured by the same bullet that went through the windshield," Lee said during a press conference at Tainan's Tayih Landis Hotel.

Lee and forensic photographer Calvin Ostler flew to Tainan on Friday to visit the medical personnel who attended to the president and the vice president after the shooting.

3. Lee traveled a long road to international renown
By Jimmy Chuang
STAFF REPORTER
Sunday, Apr 11, 2004,Page 2

News stories about US forensic scientist Dr. Henry Lee (???) have occupied the front pages of newspapers since he arrived in Taiwan to assist local officials in investigating the March 19 assassination attempt on President Chen Shui-bian (???) and Vice President (???) Annette Lu.

The former commissioner of Connecticut's Department of Public Safety was born in Juhao County, Chiangsu Province, China, on Nov. 22, 1938. With his 12 brothers and sisters, Lee moved to Taiwan with his parents in 1947. Lee's father died during the trip.

When he was 19, Lee was admitted to Tamkang College, National Taiwan Ocean University and Central Police University. He decided to attend Central Police University because he could not afford the tuition at the other schools.

After he graduated, Lee, like many other officers, started on the force as a captain in the foreign affairs department. Eventually he quit his job because at that time the most important positions on the force were assigned only to military personnel.

Lee and his wife Margaret decided to move to Malaysia to begin a new life. In Kuala Lumpur, Lee was editor in chief of a Chinese-language newspaper. The couple decided to move to New York in 1966.

Just to be clear, Dr. Lee is what I would call a KMT Fascist Mainland Chinese. If Dr. Lee is saying this was a real shooting, there is nothing more that can be said. It would be like Tom Delay saying Bush/Cheney ordered the 9/11 attacks.

6. A-bian's shooting? It was me - TT
By Mac William Bishop ???

Sunday, Apr 11, 2004,Page 8

I have a confession to make.

I shot the president.

Now, it is no easy task to hit a man-sized target moving at a speed of 30kph from a distance of greater than 10m.

I know, because I have done it many times. As a former sergeant in the US Marine Corps, I was required to maintain proficiency in -- and received training with -- a variety of weapons. I won't pretend to be a super-marksman, nor was I ever trained as a sniper or a hit man. But I do reckon myself a fair shot, and so did the US Marine Corps, which awarded me its highest marksmanship designation.

This, coupled with the highly-respected tradition (Lee Harvey Oswald fans will appreciate this) of using former Marines in presidential-assassination plots, was all it took to spur the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) into action.

So when they came to me a week before the election and asked me if I could wing President Chen Shui-bian (???) while he stood in the back of a Jeep moving 30kph from 10m with a handmade 8mm two-shot pistol using homemade ammunition, I replied, "Why the hell not? Any requests for where exactly you would like me to flesh-wound the target?"

But perhaps you don't believe me.
