Bachmann: I made a mistake; media shows bias in reporting it
Edited on Wed Mar-16-11 01:32 PM by sabra
Source: CNN

Washington (CNN) - Three days after her widely-reported gaffe, Rep. Michele Bachmann explained it by essentially saying: I made a mistake, but the media's reporting of it proves bias.

Bachmann made the comments on Tuesday during an interview on the conservative Laura Ingraham radio show.

On Saturday at an engagement in Manchester, Bachmann said of New Hampshire, "You're the state where the shot was heard around the world at Lexington and Concord."

The battles of Lexington and Concord in 1775 were fought in Massachusetts, not New Hampshire.

1. Why would she talk about Massachusetts when she is *in* New Hampshire?
Look up "venal ditz" in Wikipedia and you'll find her picture.

_________
Michele Bachmann's totally insane Tea Party response to Barack Obama's State of the Union definitely outshined Paul Ryan's official Republican rebut.

8. The media reporting she couldn't find her butt cheeks with two hands and a flashlight
would be bias. (albeit probably true)

Personal responsibility seems a bit lacking here, but that's nothing new with either Bachmann or her ilk.

11. A red-faced admission: I made a similar mistake
I was slated to give a speech in Concord. I must have spaced out when I made the arrangements because I drove to Concord, NH. Found out only when I got there that I was supposed to be in Concord, Massachusetts. Luckily I had just enough time to make it to the right Concord for the speech. I've since spoken to several people who've also done it.

14. But that's different than being a loudmouthed elected official who wants to hold hearings
to determine who in congress is anti-American and then not knowing your own country's revolutionary history. And to have a staff who doesn't know either. She also said that the founding fathers got rid of slavery. Guess she got that one from her idol and mentor Sarah Palin.

Did your staff help you prepare?

Was the trip your national debut in your run for POTUS?

I'm guessing your experience was not really similar, even though it may seem so on the surface.

However, if you are from Maine, as your nom indicates, maybe you should have been aware of the existence of both Concord, MA and Concord, NH and therefore should probably have been alert enough to question which state your engagement was in. So, maybe I wouldn't vote for you for POTUS, either. (j/k)

painted on it in white. If that's faded, it wouldn't be so bad, IMO. Thought it was a bit hokey.

However, our infrastructure does leave a lot to be desired. Since our legislature has been about 96% Democrats for a while, I would be dishonest to blame Republicans for much.

And our last few state speakers of the house, all Dem, seem to have a tendeny for helping themselves to money. However, our Republian Governors did give a few tax refunds, ala Dummya. And, while Gov. Deval Patrick, a Clinton Dem, has given no tax refunds, he's a multi-millionaire bank type and his private business career raised a few questions, no Bernie Sanders by any means. So, it's a very mixed bag.

Best I an tell, it's politicians versus people here, more than Dems vs. Pubs.

ETA: Still, I love my blue state, esp. and its stands on human rights and its blue judges. And, for all her shortcomings as a Senatorial hopeful, Coakley is a good AG

I knew there was a Concord MA, but I was so busy trying to keep up with my speaking schedule that I just assumed it was the Concord that was nearest to me.

26. yes, there is bias
Bias against idiocy and lack of knowledge of Elementary School history among members of the House of Representatives. The public expects them to be at least half-wits, not dim-wits. Yes, there is bias---we want someone who is not an idiot in Congress. Which brings us to Mark Twain who said:

"Suppose you were an idiot, and suppose you were a member of Congress. But I repeat myself..."

35. He said "57 states" and, contrary to lying Michelle, media did report it.
Clearly, his mistake was a slip of the tongue. As a Hawaiian and, at the time, a member of the U.S. Senate and a Presidential campaigner, he knew very well U.S. has 50 states. Equally clearly, Bachmann's error was no mere slip of the tongue.

Anyway, point is, she is a liar as well as an ignoramus.

37. Dear Lord, how she cherishes her imagined victimhood.
Reminds me of a time, back around 2003-2004, when Bachmann was the State Senator from my district. The local small-town paper ran a get-to-know-your-state-legislator sort of piece, and posed the same set of questions to Bachmann and to our State Rep, Rebecca Otto.

They finished up with a lighthearted, softball question: "What kind of car do you drive?".

Otto immediately replied that she drove a Prius; Bachmann paused and said darkly that she didn't dare tell, hinting that she was in personal danger and under attack from her political opponents. When pressed for details, she explained to the interviewer that, well, her brother-in-law's service station had recently been burglarized.

Cripe. Like the burglars knew or cared that the service station belonged to someone related by marriage to our illustrious State Senator from District 52.

Then again, now that I think of it, there is that passage in the Bible that says, "Lo, and the righteous shall be persecuted, and stuff shall be stolen from their in-laws' gas stations..." I don't remember the chapter and verse, but I'm pretty sure it's in there somewhere.

But Bachmann repeated the error a second time at another engagement. This was ignorance. Bachmann and her staff would have never known if someone didn't point out their ignorance to them.
