RNC considers selling TV rights of presidential primary debates
Source: CNN

The Republican National Committee is considering sanctioning the GOP presidential primary debates and then selling the broadcast rights to news outlets, two Republicans with knowledge of the idea tell CNN.

The proposal was mentioned last week during a meeting of top RNC officials and a handful of political operatives representing potential GOP presidential candidates.

In February, the RNC disclosed it was saddled with more than $22 million of debt left over from the 2010 midterm elections. At that time, newly elected Chairman Reince Priebus acknowledged the committee has "a lot of work to do" to pay off its obligations so it can focus on raising money for the 2012 presidential election.

It is unclear if it is legal for the RNC to sell the broadcasting rights or whether it would constitute a prohibited political contribution in the eyes of federal law.

16. That would be money well spent
Buy the rights and then don't show them anywhere, or only use the stupid quotes from each candidate as a campaign montage

12. Presidential debates have become less and less open and honest,
thanks to the RNC and DNC and the major candidates of the two major parties and joining hands in an unholy alliance. They dictate what the network, moderator, camera operators and sound people may and may not do, show, broadcast, allow to participate, etc. (And what in God's name WAS that square object on Dummya's back anyway?)

Presidential debates now are as designed to try to keep things hidden from voters as they are to try to reveal things to voters.

If anyone sells anything, thereby corruping them even further, I will boycott. I ask you to do the same.

Highlights will be re-broadcast by CNN, MSNBC and others, full transcripts and full re-broadcasts will be available on line, and so on. (Just fast forward through any commercials.

It's time voters start standing up, if only in small ways--since big ways seem to be beyond our ambitions and/or abilities.

17. If your cable company or a station carried by your company buys this
you should end your cable subscription.

Why should Democrats have to pay even the tiniest portion of the cost of those ridiculous "debates." If the 2008 debates are any indication, these debates will be sheer rubbish, a cruel joke. Not worth watching much less paying for.
