BEIJING, March 17 | Thu Mar 17, 2011 3:19am EDT

- The Chinese government urged Japan to tell the world in an "accurate and swift way" about any developments concerning radiation risks from a nuclear power plant ravaged by an earthquake and tsunami.

The Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman, Jiang Yu, made the statement to a regular news briefing in answer to a question about Japan's nuclear crisis. (Reporting by Ben Blanchard; Editing by Ken Wills)

4. Well, we still haven't heard from North Korea!
Pyongyang will surely weigh in here. Isn't Japan a short way across the sea?

6. China are correct, though. Japan should quickly and accurately report on crisis developments
I think it's distasteful to see this as an opportunity for political point scoring.

9. Not so! If one has studied the area, the proximity is striking.
It's not for points but out of curiosity.

11. OK, so you weren't making a joke or going for political point scoring...
...with this?

"Well, we still haven't heard from North Korea! Pyongyang will surely weigh in here."

And you'd already know the answer to this then, which must have been a rhetorical question if you'd studied the area?

"Isn't Japan a short way across the sea?"

ALL Japan's neighbors deserve fast unvarnished truth as it unfolds. Including Indonesia, where I live.

To learn and from time to time to apply what one has learned, isn't that a pleasure? ... Learning without thought is labor lost; thought without learning is perilous. (Confucius, Analects).

15. Out of all the bad news this disaster has generated, at last
one small bit that at least is groan-worthy for a reason other than tragedy. Oy - China asking for transparency - what has the world come to?
