Canada says needs 2 days to prepare jets for Libya
Source: Reuters

Sat Mar 19, 2011 1:54pm GMT

PARIS (Reuters) - Canada backs the idea of taking swift military action in Libya but it would need two days to prepare its military aircraft for an operation, a government spokesman said during international talks in Paris.
"While Canada supports quick action, Canadian fighter jets have just reached the region and will require two days to prepare for any mission," a spokesman for Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper told Reuters by email.

15. Our invasion command post is at a bar in Buffalo
We will take Blitzkrieg under advisement.

Dunno what the "krieg" part means.

But we are certainly all for getting "Blitzed".

Apologies to Michael Moore and his movie Canadian Bacon.

:hi:

9. OK, let's review
The UN resolution was passed on Thursday. Two days later, they've got assets in theatre. Now they say they need 2 days to begin operations.

Canada's aircraft are not coming over to their own overseas base, where they've already got infrastructure in place to support their own deployed aircraft. Modern fighters are complicated systems, and you've got to bring everything and the kitchen sink with you. That stuff will literally be in boxes and crates right now. You don't just fuel up and start bombing.

For example, after ferrying the fighters across the Atlantic, they'll have to reconfigure them from that mode to whatever their new mission is (which may not even have been assigned yet). They'll have external tanks on, and the equipment to remove them is probably just being taken off a cargo plane.

It would be different if they were coming to their own base that was set up to support that particular aircraft. Then you could turn them around in a matter of hours.
