Source: Al Jazeera English

Hip-hop superstar Wyclef Jean injured by gunfire as polls open for presidential election in Caribbean nation.
Last Modified: 20 Mar 2011 06:44

Wyclef Jean, the American singer and music producer, has been shot in the Haitian capital while campaigning for a presidential candidate Michel Martelly.

The 41-year-old former member of music group The Fugees was in a stable condition in hospital in Port-au-Prince on Sunday, being treated for a bullet wound to his right hand.

His management declared via Twitter: "We have spoken to Wyclef, he is ok. Thank you for your thoughts and prayers."

Following last year's tragic earthquake, the hip-hop sensation declared he would stand for president, only to be told he was inelegible. Instead he returned to Haiti to campaign for Michel Martelly.

3. A reminder of who Wyclef really is.
"Ghosts of Cite Soleil plays like a manipulative music video, featuring music by Haitian rapper Wyclef Jean, also the executive producer, who supported the coup and pushed the State Department line among the conscious hip-hop community and progressive celebrities in Hollywood. This contrasts to the principled stand of Danny Glover, Ruby Dee and her late, great husband Ossie Davis. You can almost hear the violins behind Chamblain, as he talks about his return to Haiti, but the music becomes dissonant and menacing behind Aristide or behind 2Pac and Bily, who speak English no less, but we never learn why. Like we never learn who, or why about anything in this movie, a piece of soft core propaganda, cleverly, consciously, and seductively made. Candy may be sweet, but it rots your teeth."

Aristide wanted to raise the minimum wage and make the rich pay taxes, which the rich don’t do in Haiti.

Wyclef does not support this, he is more like a Koch brother making propaganda movies to support the rich factory owners.

Sound familiar???

8. What information do you have, not known to others, that Aristide is responsible for that shot?
It would be helpful if you opted to share your source here with a link.

6. no one is advocating violence
Just telling you who he really is

http://axisoflogic.com/artman/publish/Article_62397.shtml

If Wicleff cared about Haiti, why is he supporting a pro-Duvalierist, Sweet Micky???? why is he not leading the march to put Dovalier is Jail, why is an ex dictator living the hi-life, after robbing and killing its people
this is why the people of Haiti are poor.
"Let us be clear. Jean and his uncle, the Haitian ambassador to the U.S., are both cozy with the self-appointed czar of Haiti, Bill Clinton, whose plans for the Caribbean nation are to make it a neo-colony for a reconstructed tourist industry and a pool of cheap labor for U.S. factories. Wyclef Jean is the perfect front man. The Haitian elite and its U.S./U.N. sponsors are counting on his appeal to the youth to derail the people’s movement for democracy and their call for the return of President Aristide. Most Haitians will not be hoodwinked by the likes of Wyclef Jean"

7. It's so sad when people have no grasp of the facts behind the names, isn't it?

Thanks for adding some important necessary facts.

Wyclef Jean for president of Haiti? Look beyond the hype
August 2, 2010
by Charlie Hinton, with editing assistance from Kiilu Nyasha

~snip~
Wyclef Jean supported the 2004 coup. When gun-running former army and death squad members trained by the CIA were overrunning Haiti’s north on Feb. 25, 2004, MTV’s Gideon Yago wrote, “Wyclef Jean voiced his support for Haitian rebels on Wednesday, calling on embattled Haitian President Jean-Bertrand Aristide to step down and telling his fans in Haiti to ‘keep their head up’ as the country braces itself for possible civil war.”

During the Obama inaugural celebration, Jean famously and perversely serenaded Colin Powell, the Bush administration secretary of state during the U.S. destabilization campaign and eventual coup against Aristide, with Bob Marley’s “Redemption Song.”

Jean also produced the movie, “The Ghosts of Cite Soleil,” an anti-Aristide and Lavalas hit piece, which tells us that President Aristide left voluntarily, without mention of his kidnapping by the U.S. military, and presents the main coup leaders in a favorable light. It features interviews with sweatshop owners Andy Apaid and Charles Henry Baker without telling us they hate Aristide because he raised the minimum wage and sought to give all Haitians a seat at the table by democratizing Haiti’s economy, a program opposed by the rich in Haiti.

It uncritically interviews coup leader Louis Jodel Chamblain, without telling us he worked with the Duvalier dictatorship’s brutal militia, the Tonton Macoutes, in the 1980s; that following the coup against Aristide in 1991, he was the “operations guy” for the FRAPH paramilitary death squad, accused of murdering uncounted numbers of Aristide supporters and introducing gang rape into Haiti as a military weapon.

5. Check out these lyrics from his song "If I was president.":
Edited on Sun Mar-20-11 09:38 AM by Poll_Blind
If I was president,
I'd get elected on Friday
Assassinated on Saturday
Buried on Sundary
Then go back to work on Monday

If I was President

Best wishes for a speedy recovery.

10. He was not shot.
"A confused incident on the eve of the vote involving Haitian-American hip hop star Wyclef Jean, who backs Martelly, led to an erroneous report that he had been shot in the hand."

12.  So now Wyclef is "unshot"

Thanks for the link.

Fyi was reading on Spanish-language sites that the voting got off to a rocky start this morning.

Some of the polling places were delivered ballots from the elections of last November, and some did not get ballots at all.

All is normal in Haiti.

13. And they may not even have enough ballots to be able to take some to the trash dumps and burn them
the way they did in 2006, which was discovered by Haitian citizens, in 2 different locations.

Haiti election turmoil deepens after ballots discovered in dump
By Tim Collie

South Florida Sun-Sentinel

PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti — Haiti's troubled elections were dealt another blow Wednesday with the discovery of dozens of ballot boxes and polling materials scattered across a landfill just outside the capital city.

The discovery seemed to back charges by front-runner René Préval that fraud and "gross errors" plagued the Feb. 7 presidential contest.

"Just look at this — this is what the rich of this country think of our votes," said Renel Duqueres, a landfill worker who said he began noticing the ballot boxes being dumped last week. "They just kept coming and coming, and we burned a lot of them. But then it just became too much."

Discarded ballots

As pigs and goats rooted through huge mounds of smoldering garbage covering dozens of acres, Haitians from nearby villages waved discarded ballots Wednesday that showed Préval's box checked as an apparent vote. But some ballots showed markings for other candidates; others had no marks at all.
