Protestors Set To Rally Against War In Iraq
Protestors Set To Rally Against War In Iraq
People To Meet At Lafayette Park

POSTED: 8:19 am EDT April 10, 2004
UPDATED: 8:33 am EDT April 10, 2004

Protestors plan to gather at Lafayette Park Saturday. The protestors are then expected to march through several commercial and residential areas in the district, News4 reported.

The group A.N.S.W.E.R, or Act Now to Stop War and End Racism, has organized dozens of protests, which began Friday in Los Angeles.

Demonstrations are planned through Monday in more than 50 cities around the country, News4 reported.

Good showing in LA yesterday for only a two day notice. Actor James Cromwell was there (Babe, LA Confidential, Star Trek-First Contact). No freeper creepers (darn).

1. Good. I hope
we can organize protests around the world like they had before the war. It was an amazing sight: a huge part of the world standing up against the US.

2. Focus on War
I hope the anti war movement gets it's act together before this fall. While I applaud those who have organized these events, it is not enough.

First of all, the anti war movement must focus exclusively on the war in Iraq. Bringing in racism, or genocide in Columbia, or the WTO, or clubbing baby seals will not help us stop the atrocities in the Middle East (which truly do threaten us) - or get * unelected. Break it apart; take each issue one by one. But start with the Big One first. We must stop this Vietnam/Lebanon syndrome now, before it takes root.

I believe that this war is not the same war we were sold last summer. The American public knows it and are changing their minds about how to look at it. If we stay focused on an issue with broad appeal, then we can expect positive results.
