Libya: 'Air Strike Hits Gaddafi Compound'

An air strike has destroyed an administrative building at Colonel Muammar Gaddafi's residence, according to reports.

The news came as the White House said it did not recognise a ceasefire called by Colonel Gaddafi, and anti-aircraft fire continued in the skies above Tripoli.

The Libyan leader ordered armed forces to down weapons from 7.00pm, via a government spokesman at a press conference, but witnesses reported strong blasts and gunfire in Tripoli throughout the evening.

A 10 Downing Street spokesman responded to the Libyan announcement, following a meeting of the National Security Council, saying: "Everyone will recall that in recent days Colonel Gaddafi declared a ceasefire which was promptly violated.

The compound is gigantic and they were aiming for the communication system from which he still has command and control.

How can the Colonel continue to call fake cease fires if he doesn't have a way to communicate?

named Don Lemon was anchoring when the story broke.

He asked some retired military talking head if it could have been the "allies" who bombed the Gadaffi compound !!

Earlier, he said the AA fire over Tripoli "appeared" to be anti-aircraft fire.

Someone should tell this twit that if tracers are streaming from the ground up into the sky, one can be sure that it is anti-aircraft fire.

Then blitz wolfie came on and asked another retired military head whether Gadaffi would use the "200 tons of mustard gas."

Turned the TV off.

15. I would guess it was a "command and control" center

such as was the immediate target back in the first days of the Iraq war - which I was very much against, but military strategy proceeds according to the same logic regardless.

If you eliminate the ability of a leader to communicate with his military forces, you basically end the war. Gadhafi, like most old dictators on their way out, is very likely isolated already by his own paranoia, and can hardly trust his own armies. The whole murderous house of cards shouldn't last long; I just hope some measure of sanity is left there in Tripoli afterwards.
