British lawmakers endorse military action over Libya with overwhelming vote supporting Cameron

"British Prime Minister David Cameron has won overwhelming support from Parliament for his decision to commit British forces to the military operation in Libya.

Lawmakers voted by 557 to 13 in favour of using the armed forces to enforce a United Nations resolution to use "all necessary measures" to protect civilians in Libya.

Cameron told lawmakers earlier Monday that Libya is not like Iraq, as he sought to dismiss fears that Britain will become mired in another drawn-out conflict.

Cameron and Foreign Secretary William Hague both insisted that the intervention is legal under international law and in Britain's national interest."
