Bush Catches Bass With Crew From TV Show
CRAWFORD, Texas - President Bush (news - web sites) skipped a second round of fishing in his ranch pond Saturday with a crew from an outdoors show, though his performance the day before was something to brag about.

"He took the biggest one of the day," a bass nearly four pounds, said Roland Martin, host of the Outdoor Life Network program, "Fishing with Roland Martin."

The president and Martin released several big fish they caught Friday but kept the smaller ones for eating.

Bush had been scheduled to spend Saturday with his father, the former president, and Martin and his crew on the pond at Bush's Crawford ranch.

32. Anyone remember the film of the elected Bush driving his speedboat
in the summer of '92? I think the Clinton people used the footage in a campaign commercial with the message being Bush was out of touch during an economic slowdown.

Picture this.....

A voice says..... "On August 6th 2001, just 36 days before the worst attack on US soil in our history, George Bush was given a brief by the CIA entitled "Bin Laden to attack inside the United States." George bush was on vacation at the time he was given this warning. And what did he do that morning? He went fishing. (Footage of AWOL/moron holding up 4lb. bass)

Vote John Kerry!

Bushies "lake" was hand sculpted and planted with trophy bass. No minnows allowed. Knowing the measures his handlers take, the 'guy in the pond' notion is probably true.

55. really a pig farm pond that is rarely fished by anyone is EASY pickins
Trust me on this if you want to catch a LOT of fair sized fish fast, ask a farmer if you can fish his pond for 45 freakin' minutes. Anybody and I mean anybody, even someone who can barely get a worm on a hook will reel in 7 or 8 in a situation like that. They bite as soon as the hook is in the water.

8. As I posted on another thread...
These fishing shows are as fake as Bush's presidency. The fish are caught before the taping so it all looks good.

Smoke and mirrors...things this idiot-in-chief knows so well!

I really hope someone like Moveon or ACT does an ad with the fighting in Iraq, the Marines grieving over the fallen comrades, and Bush fishing and whooping it up with the tv crew. It's enough to make me lose my lunch. Sadly, he makes me feel that way much too often.

11. things "kind of calmed down" in Iraq?

They floated on the pond for about 1 1/2 hours. White House aides told Martin that "things were kind of calmed down" in Iraq and that prospects were good for another session Saturday.

Maybe the aides didn't want to upset Martin, like Bush didn't want to upset the kids reading the Goat Story.

19. "The White House did not release a photo of Bush fishing"
The White House released a photo of Bush meeting with his national security team Saturday.

White House spokesman Scott McClellan said Bush had spoken with Gen. John Abizaid, head of U.S. Central Command, and Paul Bremer, the U.S. administrator in Iraq.

The White House did not release a photo of Bush fishing.

Nice little editorial dig at the end.

afterall, OBL is there, and that's just not important...we can have troops dying every day fighting in a place they shouldnt be in the first place...the budget can have a $500 billion debt which means that anyone under the age of 50 is in a toss up about S/S benefits...and the economic "recovery" can be the weirdest and slowest ever seen after a slowdown...

But, heck, if Bush can fish, then he must be a damn good president...

:toast:

An article was posted yesterday that said that * has spent 43% of his presidency ON VACATION! Other than movie stars, what other working people in America can do this? I spend 13 hours a day, six days a week working (post on DU while I'm scanning artwork), and I'm just drawing %$#@&* cartoons for Disney for my bread and butter- this joker is supposed to be LEADING THE FREE WORLD and he doesn't spend HALF the time working that I do? WTF!

To top it off, he won't spend more than TWO HOURS in a joint testimony with his puppetmaster before the 9/11 commission? Calling up and outdoor sportsmen's show and having them see him catch a fish is more important than finding out why 9/11 happened and stopping future attacks? Iraq is CRUMBLING, and he's playing at his pond? We need to HAMMER these lazy, arrogant, contemptible SOBs with this crap! It's unforgivable! He has betrayed the office of the presidency and has/ is failing in his duties to protect America. ENOUGH!

Schwarzenegger a real-life hero in saving swimmer

Mark Martin, Chronicle Sacramento Bureau

If it was an Arnold Schwarzenegger movie, the swimmer in danger most likely would have been surrounded by sharks or fighting with an aquatic robot.

Instead, Schwarzenegger, the former film hero and current California governor, calmly helped a distressed swimmer return to shore this week at a Hawaii beach after the man told him he was cramping up in the water, the governor's press secretary confirmed Friday.

(if you haven't already read it in the article)
(snip)

The TV host said Bush is "a very accomplished fisherman. He handled the tackle really well and caught three fish," Martin said. "He complains he doesn't fish there enough; so he misses that a lot."

They floated on the pond for about 1 1/2 hours. White House aides told Martin that "things were kind of calmed down" in Iraq and that prospects were good for another session Saturday.

Then Saturday proved a perfect example of what happens when the president's job gets in the way of his hobby, Martin said.

51. Things were kind of calmed down....
Meanwhile, from Riverbend Blog:

http://riverbendblog.blogspot.com/

"The American and European news stations don't show the dying Iraqis… they don't show the women and children bandaged and bleeding-
the mother looking for some sign of her son in the middle of a puddle of blood and dismembered arms and legs…
they don't show you the hospitals overflowing with the dead and dying because they don't want to hurt American feelings…
but people *should* see it. You should see the price of your war and occupation- it's unfair that the Americans are fighting a war
thousands of kilometers from home.
They get their dead in neat, tidy caskets draped with a flag and we have to gather and scrape our dead off of the floors and hope
the American shrapnel and bullets left enough to make a definite identification…

One year later, and Bush has achieved what he wanted- this day will go down in history and in the memory of all Iraqis as one of the bloodiest days ever..."

--snip--

Today I despise this phony man than ever before...and I hope this story will stay in the news because anyone with one ounce of common sense should be able to figure out The Potemkin Village Idiot does not give a rat's ass about anyone but his corporate fat cats.

I'm sure the parents of Thomas Hamill will be glad to know things were kind of calmed down.

Enjoy your crappie, bu$h*.

he is destroying the habitat and waterways so badly we won't HAVE any fish soon; and better not eat 'em, what with the new levels of mercury allowed and all....

Bush had walked to the pond that day, "dropped a line and caught a nice crappie, about a pound and a half, and let (Bush's Scottish terrier) Barney sniff at it a little bit," Martin said.

62. I had no idea that bass would bite on a news crew....
guess I have been doing it wrong all these years. No wonder I suck at fishing, I use lures and various other bait.

I will have to try that news crew idea, there are far too many of them anyway.

68. Our Soldiers Are Dyin', Condi's Lyin' & The President's Gone Fishin'
Edited on Sat Apr-10-04 07:44 PM by David Zephyr
The parents, spouses and loved ones of every soldier in Bush's World War should be fuming at the notion of this bastard fishing while our soldiers are facing death in an unwinnable situation.

Soldiers are dyin'
Condi's lyin'
And Bush has gone fishin'.
