Kennedy's Support for Kerry Thrills G.O.P.
I don't buy this myself - I think Ted is marvelous.

http://www.nytimes.com/2004/04/11/politics/campaign/11TEDD.html?hp

~snip~
With careers and lives that have intersected across 33 years, including 19 together in the Senate representing Massachusetts, Mr. Kennedy and Mr. Kerry have indeed forged a special relationship. And it reached a new level this year with Mr. Kennedy's pivotal role in turning around Mr. Kerry's once-struggling primary campaign with behind-the-scenes advice and spirited public appearances.

Now that bond has some Democrats nervous that Mr. Kerry is making it easier for Republicans to paint him as a member in good standing of his party's most liberal wing by accentuating his connection with Mr. Kennedy, whose image is firmly fixed in the minds of those who admire him and those who do not.

Republicans, on the other hand, are happy with Mr. Kennedy's involvement. "The more Teddy Kennedy on the campaign trail, the better," said Representative Tom DeLay of Texas, the House majority leader.

...
Mr. Kennedy says he recognizes that he plays better in some parts of the country than others and will take that into consideration in the months ahead.

~/snip~
It's a fairly lengthy article, and I think pretty balanced. I expect we will see less of Ted once a VP candidate has been chosen, though I never tire of hearing Ted's fiery speeches.

1. Don't mind Ted
But you can see why the other side hates him. If some Rethug let a woman die in his car and could have easily saved her, we would be pretty polarized against him too. Also, if the rethug were super right wing, we would hate him even more. It's all politickin' babe

24. Jesus Christ,
you can rely on the Republicans to drag out the 1969 tragic event of the Chapaquidick accident on a regular basis to try and throw mud on Ted Kennedy. The cowards have no other mud to throw. I had always thought Laura Bush's tragic car accident should not be used as a political tool, but I guess all is fair in love and political war.
There is plenty of mud to throw around when you think of the adultry, DUIs, drug allegations, AWOL allegations, assassination allegations, wife beatings, etc. and other scandals committed by politicians. The worst scandal of all is the illegal war based on proven blantant lies conducted by the man in the WH that has resulted in untold deaths and mutilations of innocents.

49. Continuing to make comments such as...
..."KILLING SOMEONE JUST KIND OF TOPS IT OFF FOR THEM", as if Kennedy deliberately killed the girl, is just adding fuel to the fire that's rapidly consuming your credibility.

Maybe you should try rereading your comments before you post them and quit trying to blame others for what you personally failed to make clear.

25. He could NOT easily have saved her.
He tried again and again to save her as determined by in-depth investigations and plenty of political heat. Foresight and caution could have saved her, the same as if Laura Bush had used caution & foresight before going on the road. Politicians and their supporters have no problem using death to further their interests. The mocking Bird is singing o're their graves.

2. If the GOP really liked Kennedy's participation, they would keep mum
No way would they put this statement out in public for the Democratic party's benefit. The GOP wants Kennedy to shut up because he is one of the most high profile critics of Bush.

Wonder if the Democratic party falls for this nonsense.

6. Oh, the Repugs are always saying stuff like this...

When Dean was ahead, it was "Alright, we want Dean"...

When Kerry was ahead, it was "Ha! We fooled you about Dean, we wanted Kerry.."

"Casualties and insurgency in Iraq means we're winning."

They have to pretend loudly and ostentatiously that they're winning, even when their entire party and their entire country is being flushed down the toilet as a direct result of their actions.

The chief cause of this is that they all have very small dicks.

Kennedy's impact is way overstated by the thugs. Maybe in years past, it would have been some kind of issue. This election season is totally different. The scope of Shrub's failures eclipse everything else. The neo-cons are so radical that EVERYONE else is sane by comparison.

It's the same trick they used in 2000 to scare Gore away from letting Clinton campaign for him. Convinced him that being connected to Clinton would ruin his chances . . . and it worked. Gore seemed to forget that Clinton had already beaten these guys twice, and let himself be deprived of a good campaigner.

31. The Republicans try to scare people with Kennedy
but it just doesn't work anymore.

The people who hate Kennedy would never vote for a Democrat anyway. Kennedy is known for being a champion of health care, and that is a huge issue right now that the Republicans are completely ignoring.

Americans can be self-righteous, but we are also a forgiving group. Kennedy's past is not enough to demonize him. People are a lot more upset about Iraq, the economy, loss of jobs, and lack of health care.

shaking his head is disgust at Shrubs SOTU. It hit her then as she agreed with Kennedy on the whole medicare healthcare scam. She said Shrub has got to be pretty bad if I'm agreeing with Kennedy. Since then she's been listening to Kennedy without that old bias and likes a lot of what he says.

Oh, and she will absolutely NOT vote for Shrub this year.

45. If Americans had forgiven Kennedy for Chappaquiddick,
he'd have been elected in 1980. It's a shame, because his Senate
record is good, and I think he's now well-respected world-wide.

I've wondered over the past couple of weeks whether he could
feasibly be selected as VP, given that he has the social conscience
that Kerry seems to lack. But it would be difficult - I think the
Republicans hate Kennedys the way they hate Clintons (because they're
so successful, and so good at what they do?), and they'd certainly
drag up Chappaquiddick again, aided by the compliant press. Of
course, Bush has plenty of slime attached to him, but given that
the media are largely biased towards Bush, would they ever run with
anything that would really damage him? I doubt it.

37. Ted Kennedy has served with distinction
in the US Senate since 1962. He has endured a broken back, the murders of his brothers, war related death of another brother, plane crash death of a sister, and his son's losing a leg to cancer - for starters. He has buried three nephews and been a surrogate father to all of his brothers' children.

Through it all he's been an effective champion for those too often and easily marginalized. I'd be proud and honored to have Sen. Kennedy on my side.
