Vermont House votes to approve bill that would establish health care marketplace
Source: Associated Press

The Vermont House of Representatives voted early Thursday to approve a bill that would establish a statewide health care marketplace.

The bill would set the state on a path toward universal health care and cost containment, the office of the speaker of the House said in an emailed statement.

....

Lawmakers debating on Wednesday said the ambitious health care bill would move the state toward a publicly funded single-payer system, a longtime goal of liberal Democrats including Gov. Peter Shumlin.

....

It would create a five-member state board and staff — at a cost of about $1.2 million — to begin creating a new statewide Green Mountain Care health insurance program. The board would design a benefit package and cost-saving measures, in part by moving to a unified budget from the current fee-for-service system in which the more treatments providers deliver, the more money they make.

3. About time
I feel like most people don't understand how beneficial universal health care for the country as a whole. Hopefully once certain states use it successfully hopefully it'll spread to other states.

4. People don't understand because the 90% Republican-owned
news media are continuing with their lies to make sure that their readership
will never understand the benefits of the single-payer system. The rest of the
industrialized nations of the world already have it.

We are only some 60 years behind them. Thanks to the greed of our corporate
system.

10. How Americans who have lived in Canada think:
Americans who have lived in Canada, with a single payer system, are afraid to go back to the U.S because they know they will be denied health care if they return to the U.S. that they are guaranteed in Canada.

....excellent, Vermont....if a million of us showed up in Washington demanding universal healthcare, and wouldn't leave until we got it, wouldn't Washington have to respond?
