Myanmar rocked by powerful earthquake

Los Angeles Times
March 24, 2011, 11:07 a.m.

The northeastern part of Myanmar was hit with a magnitude 6.8 earthquake Thursday night. One woman was reported killed when a roof collapsed in Chiang Rai.

The quake was felt in Bangkok, 480 miles to the south of the epicenter, where buildings reportedly swayed.

The U.S. Geological Survey said the quake was six miles deep and that it is possible that 600,000 people could feel shaking anywhere from strong to violent and that damage could be widespread.

2. You know, you're right.....
...there seems to be an absence of red dots in that area.

Three Mile Island, Chernobyl and Fukushima. Who's next?

- The places where there are no red dots will be the only places we'll be able to live pretty soon. I've always wanted to go to Australia....

2 7-Magnitude Quakes Strike NE Myanmar; No Tsunami

Two strong earthquakes struck northeastern Myanmar less than a minute apart Thursday night. They could be felt as far away as Bangkok, but a tsunami was not generated.

The first 7.0-magnitude quake was just six miles (10 kilometers) deep, according to the U.S. Geological Survey. It was followed by another of the same strength but far deeper: 140 miles (230 kilometers).

The quakes struck along Myanmar's borders with Thailand and Laos, about 70 miles (110 kilometers) from the northern

6. Thanks for the link. Given the information, I thought a tsunami unlikely, but...
it's nice to see it confirmed.
