MTU grad arrested over bomb left at(Detroit) Federal Building

An engineering graduate from Michigan Tech University who blames the government for his father’s death was arrested this morning on charges relating to the suspected bomb that was recently found at the McNamara Federal Building in Detroit.

Authorities arrested Gary John Mikulich, 42, of Kingsford, after linking him to the suspicious tool bag that was originally found at the federal building on Feb. 26, according to a criminal complaint filed in U.S. District Court. An FBI employee found the bag abandoned outside the building and turned it over to the building’s security officers, the complaint said. For some unknown reason, the security officers kept the package for three weeks, the complaint said.

It wasn’t until March 18 that a security officer ran the bag through an X-ray machine and discovered that it contained suspicious materials, such as wires, a dense mass and electrical components, the complaint said.

The Detroit Bomb Squad was then called in. The squad took the bag to Belle Isle and detonated it. Among the items inside the bag were a metal cash box and a GE timer, which was found after authorities detonated the package.

3. I doubt he was framed. However, I'd like to know for sure that there really was a bomb in the bag.
Wires and a timer do not make a bomb. I haven't read anything about there being actual explosives in the bag, yet.

Bomb undiscovered for weeks at Detroit fed building: union chief

– Wed Mar 23, 6:51 pm ET
DETROIT (Reuters) – A package found by a security guard at a federal office building in Detroit sat three weeks before someone thought to screen it and found it was a bomb, an official who represents unionized guards said on Wednesday.

A private contract guard, since suspended, apparently found the package outside in late February, said David Wright, president of the union that represents Federal Protective Service guards but not contract guards.

The guard brought the package into the building and put it in "lost and found" without having it screened, Wright said. It sat until March 18, when someone decided to X-ray the package and found that it might contain a bomb, he said.

The guards then notified the Federal Protective Service and Detroit police and the package was moved outside the building, where the police bomb squad recovered it, he said.
