Rebels control Libya oil town of Ras Lanuf
Gaddafi forces reportedly lose control of Ras Lanuf in eastern Libya
AFP , Sunday 27 Mar 2011

Rebels fighting forces loyal to Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi were in control of the key eastern oil town of Ras Lanuf on Sunday, AFP correspondents reported.

Ras Lanuf is 370 kilometres (230 miles) west of the rebel stronghold city of Benghazi and 210 kilometres from Ajdabiya, the first town to fall back into rebel hands on Saturday after a week into allied air strikes.

It had fallen to Gaddafi's forces on 12 March.

Weapons could be seen abandoned on the road and buildings were partly destroyed, indicating Gaddafi forces had retreated further west towards the Libyan leader's hometown of Sirte.

2. They are afraid.
They know they are outgunned and are reflexively retreating to their enclaves of support.

Like Saddam in Iraq, pull back and then make a stand at Surt or Tripoli. Tripoli could be a real bloodbath.

5. Yes, but

it must be demoralizing to be bombed by an untouchable enemy.

Although, they certainly reaped what they sowed....

I think Obama intends to "wipe 'em out", like they eventually did against the Baath Party in Iraq.

But yeah I don't think there will be a coup against Gadhafi. The Benghazites aim to ... oh boy it's gonna be Congo all over again.

7. Only Surt is cut off by Misrata, and Tripoli is just *WAITING* to erupt with anti-Gaddafi...
...protests.

8. I'm curious
Why are you so interested in this war?

How do you know Tripoli is just waiting to erupt with anti-Gaddafi forces? What is the source of your information?

I'm not saying you're wrong. But your posts are unusual.

6. If Gadhafi loses, he will at least have the consolation
that he brought down his foreign enemies with him. Canada's Harper has fallen, and France's president is losing... and Cameron, hmm....

As for Obama, Gadhafi is probably still too deluded to see that Obama is his main enemy. I think he's trapped in "the glow".

9. War is the only game in which both sides lose
Walter Scott.

There will be many losers here and no winners at all.
