17 suspected militants killed in Russian operation

Moscow (CNN) -- Seventeen militants were killed in two special operations conducted by law enforcement officials in the southern Russian region of Ingushetia, Nikolai Sintsov, spokesman for the Russian National Anti-Terrorist Committee, told CNN Monday.

Also, authorities detained two suspected accomplices in the January bombing at Moscow's international Domodedovo Airport, he said.

The operations were a collaborative effort of Russia's Investigative Committee, the Federal Security Service (FSB) and the Interior and Defense ministries.

They were launched as part of the ongoing investigation into the January 24 airport suicide bombing, Sintsov said. Thirty-seven people were killed and more than 100 were wounded in the bombing. The suicide bomber was identified as Magomed Yevloyev, 20, a resident of Ingushetia.
