Portland man accused of threatening to shoot LePage
Source: BDN

PORTLAND, Maine — A man has been charged with threatening to shoot Maine Gov. Paul LePage, the second known instance of the governor receiving threats in the nearly four months he’s been in office.

Michael R. Thomas, 50, of Portland allegedly wrote anonymous letters to the governor that included threats such as, “As far as I’m concerned you’re the devil himself and I will put a bullet or two in you, if it’s the last thing I do,” and “I will strike when you least expect it,” according to court documents.

Thomas was arrested Friday by federal agents, according to the Portland Press Herald.

3. I can't wait to hear the rest of the story on this one
the last guy who threatened LePage, was in prison at the time, still is...and is mentally challenged, as in extremely low IQ. Some think that other prisoners may have put him up to it.

I'm betting this new one, has nothing to do with political affiliation.

8. Comedic Performance Of Maine's Neophyte & Foul Mouth Gov
Edited on Mon Mar-28-11 03:26 PM by Dirigo
This is most unfortunate and such a stupid approach to Maine's problems. No one regardless of political persuasion should utter such a thought or make such a serious threat to anyone in public office. Surely the "accident of history and a quirk in election results" netted Maine a governor that has become a caricature of himself, but there are far better ways to address his brutally regressive kind of administration: A Recall Campaign is one such tool if the governor is accused of any criminal wrongdoing. Another might be a citizen campaign promoting and electing a more responsible legislature to contravene his antics. Maybe even some mocking bumper stickers to call attention to Maine's plight. Maine is no worse off than any number of states where RepubliBaggers have been swept into office as governor by accident. The backlash is mounting against these types of rank amateurs and I trust the system to correct the error in a lawful manner. Violence is criminal and should be punished with the full force of the law. What is needed is Brains not Brawn! LePage's foul mouthed comments to the President of the U.S. is but one criticism of a string of gaffes.

When its tough out there the tough get going! Write your newspaper, offer constructive criticisms, talk to people, energize the masses, let your neighbors know how you feel about Maine becoming a laughing stock and a backwater flyover state thanks to the ugly approach of hateful conservatism.

I am proud to have been a State O'Mainer, a former state trooper and a member of a city police commission in Maine. I am now an observer and just as appalled by Maine going backwards as anyone else.

Polls reflect GOP Governors losing do over elections Big Time...

9. Maine doesn't have a recall process
has to be impeached through the legislature. I have a feeling a lot of letters have already been written. Maine will protest. We're like that. :hi:

13. Thank you for your service as a Trooper
I was interested in becoming a Maine State Trooper when I was younger. I did a ride along with Troop A and almost was going to do an internship with Troop G (Turnpike) when I was at SMCC. What Troop were you mainly out of? I was bored at work one day and actually went on their website and see things have changed (I have not lived in Maine for about 7 years) and was surprised to see Troop A is responsible for I-295 now.

I've always wondered this but what is your take on the political climate of the other Troopers? I know for the most part Maine can be very liberal for a smaller populated and rural State but you never know.

5. Actually I would find him not guilty by reason of insanity
then release him to the public, citing that LePage cut budgets for institutions as to which to place him.

12. Don't be so sarcastic
remember that the plan in Wisconsin was to fake an assassination threat/attempt. Who's to say that isn't what is going on in Maine?

11. What's the matter with these guys?! They're interfering with Thomas'
1st and 2nd Amendment rights!

If the Phelps curse is allowed to wish death and damnation on people they don't know, why isn't Thomas' speech covered?

No sarcasm implied or intended.

14. My local GOP congress critter in Mich.
Met with local union leaders waving a death threat email around. Funny how it is the same in each state. I don't believe it.
