Virginia Tech Fined $55K for Response to Shootings

The U.S. Department of Education has fined Virginia Tech $55,000 for waiting too long to notify students during a 2007 shooting rampage.

The amount was the maximum fine Tech faced for two violations of the federal Clery Act, which requires timely reporting of crimes on campus.

In announcing the fine Tuesday, department officials said the violation warranted a fine "far in excess" of $55,000. Violations and fines are rare, with only a few dozen over the past two decades.

1. I wonder why? Did Virginia Tech allow this student to carry a gun?
Here in Wisconsin our Republican Attorney General is promoting guns in public day to day events... Church, shopping and schools.

2. I'm pretty sure he was "allowed" to carry it by shooting anyone who confronted him about it.

3. iirc,
The university officials knew the first couple of victims had been shot in the dorm with the gunman on the loose, but instead of evacuating, only released a vague 'advisory' on the campus alert system sans details...

I think there was a gap of 20 minutes before the shooter went into the classroom and killed everyone else...

Everyone knew recriminations were coming, and as I predicted, they were going to be spaced out pretty far (certain school officials 'resigned' about 10-12 months later)...
