Congressional pay during a shutdown? Still looks likely
Source: MSNBC

With the threat of a government shutdown again rumbling on the horizon, federal workers may be looking nervously at their bank accounts.

But what about members of Congress?

As freshman Rep. Sean Duffy (R-WI) told constituents last week: "I guarantee most of you, I have more debt than all of you. With six kids, I still pay off my student loans. I still pay my mortgage. I drive a used minivan. If you think I'm living high off the hog, I've got one paycheck. So I struggle to meet my bills right now."

He makes about $5500 a week, and he can't make ends meet, or is struggling? Seriously, something is wrong with that picture.

3. if amount of debt
was criteria for wage, I would be making a lot more money... I still have student loans but nobody is offering me more money because of it. He is out of touch, a jerk or just plain stupid

6. Actually, they do pay for it,
but it's a lot cheaper and better than anything most people can afford to buy on the "free market". That's because there are about 3 million people in the insurance pool. I know. I'm covered by it. Obama could have done the same thing for at least 40 million Americans with a government health care option but chose not to.

10. they pay roughly 30% of the total premium
for an individual, the average plan is about $5000/year (their contribution is about $1600). coverage for the entire family is much more than that, however.
