Plan would shift King's (R-Ia) district (election fight between two sitting Republicans)

Western Iowans, get out your maps - new congressional boundaries proposed today significantly shake things up for your part of the state.

U.S. Reps. Steve King and Tom Latham would be in the same congressional district, forcing an election fight between two sitting Republicans.

In addition, the southern part of western Iowa - including Council Bluffs - would no longer be in King's district. Pottawattamie County and the rest of southwestern Iowa would be in the 3rd Congressional District, which would be the new home district of Democratic U.S. Rep. Leonard Boswell.

The new map reflects the population shifts in the nation. Iowa's population grew slower than other parts of the country, resulting in the loss of a congressional seat.

4. Taking Council Bluff out of his district will mean that
there will be one less city in his district. Cities usually vote Democrat in Iowa. Unfortunately that may mean more support for him and his idiot ideas. I grew up in NW Iowa and I do not have much faith in the people there.

5. But Ames is added
Not sure which way Ames goes in elections (they did have a Democratic state rep a couple years ago), but I find it hard to believe they would vote for King's whack-a-doodle extremism.

9. Cool!
My dad wasn't old enough to vote for FDR, but he voted for Truman.

My parents were election judges for 49 years, until my dad got dementia.

10. My dad was a teacher and coach.
He's doing OK for being 88. (My family is long-lived). Glad your dad got in all those years as an election judge. That's great.
