US policy towards Cuba is 'a mistake'
Says Jimmy Carter

Former US president Jimmy Carter - on a visit to Cuba - has criticised US policy towards the island.

US policy towards Cuba, including the trade embargo and travel ban, is a mistake, said Carter.

Carter, who is wrapping up a three day visit to the communist run island, also called on the Cuban government to move towards democratic reforms.

Carter said the decades-long US trade embargo and travel ban damaged the Cuban people and hindered rather than helped reform.

4. Great man!
The so-called liberal media poisoned me against him when I was in grade school. Nobody around me said much about politics, so the tv was all I had for info. Sat next to an elderly lady on a bus trip when in fifth grade, and she was the only person I remember saying good things--nay, great things--about him. Turns out she was right, and he was the best president of my lifetime (so far). Who knew? I'm guessing a lot of you.

7. A different U.S. policy would have removed the Castro bros, and their dictatorship
Just open up Cuba to travel and tourism. Connection with the rest of the world would have convinced Cubans that $20/month allowance for food, and rationing even the simplest commodities, is Dark Ages stuff.

The Cuban Embargo has been a disaster for Cuban freedom, IMO.
