Gay sailor says Lemoore (NAS) panel recommends no discharge
Source: Fresno Bee

A gay sailor at Lemoore Naval Air Station said today that a three-man panel voted to let him stay in the Navy instead of being recommended for discharge under the military's Don't Ask Don't Tell policy.

Derek Morado, 26, who is originally from Sacramento, said the hearing lasted several hours.

... The panel of two officers and one senior petty officer voted unanimously in his favor after meeting behind closed doors for 25 minutes. He said the decision will be reviewed by the Navy Personnel Command to make sure the paperwork was done correctly, and that he expects no problems will be found.

5. Wow, has Lemoore changed!
I went to HS there in 1964. They felt my hair was too long so I and my parents were dragged into the Principle's office where they showed me pictures of Hells Angles kissing and tried to convince me that long hair (by today's standards it was shorter than Ringo's) = being queer and I was ruining the school image. The next day I was escorted to the Lemoore NAS and given a military regulation crewcut. The following day, I hitchhiked back to San Francisco where I grew up and never came back. I was 14. A lot has changed in 46 years.

6. He went armed with many signatures saying 'hi, we saw the
repeal happen.' And there were OFA voices here today preaching that this guy had to be discharged because of the rules, and that the Navy can not possibly be just until July, because they have to prepare not to unjustly discharge people...July, workshops, training, rules, timetables...
Thankfully the panel felt the heat and had some honor about them.
