Gov. LePage Says Bad Timing In Labor Mural Removal
Source: Portland Press Herald

In his first interview since workers took down the mural last weekend, LePage said he was right to have it removed but should have waited until after the legislative session.

"The timing was bad," he said in a brief interview as he left a meeting with the Senate Republican caucus. "It should have been done later on, not when we are trying to get a budget passed."

LePage said he wants the public to focus on his political agenda, such as streamlining regulations and providing tax relief for Mainers.

Now I ask you....look at the expression on his face and tell me he doesn't look like he just got back from an Amway convention.

1. Actually Gov your timing was impecable
With everything else that is going on we need to know just who among the Republicans do not support American ideals, values and institutions. You certainly helped point yourself out for us.

2. agreed. and I'll add that you (LePage) have clearly showed the right priorities

Stepping on worker's faces is far and away the #1, #2 and #3 thing we need done here in Maine, where $8/hour with no benefits whatsoever is considered a "good job." All else can wait. :sarcasm:

5. Oh right
the timing was bad but taking down the mural in the first place was a good idea??!!

Do people really fall for these types of excuses?

If so we're so f^cking doomed.

6. The timing was horrible, because it revealed your political agenda
Repression works so much better away from public scrutiny. Ask any thug whether he'd rather cosh an old lady over the head in a dark alley or in broad daylight in a public square. People don't care much for muggers, which is why they operate in the dark and off the beaten path.

You're new at this, aren't you Paul? It shows.

8. So, where's the mural now?
Edited on Fri Apr-01-11 12:36 PM by moonbatmax
Now that I'm thinking about it, the smart thing might have been for those protestors to volunteer to take it down themselves, and then cart it away and reassemble it elsewhere. I suppose it wouldn't be easy to find a highly visible place the governor couldn't subsequently have it pulled down AGAIN, but still...

EDIT: WHOOPS!!! Meant to reply to the OP, sorry!

9. This clown wouldn't even be here
If we had a run off election law in place. The guy was a manager at Discount Mardens for God sake. I said it before and I'll say it again. There is something missing with these repugs... perhaps a missing gene or they grew up downwind of a toxic chemical landfill, I don't know. They are beyond mean spirited and evil. Yet they hide behind the invisible cloak of high values. WTF

14. OK. If you looked up "fucking asshole" in the dictionary you'd find a folded poster of LePUKE.
Edited on Fri Apr-01-11 01:31 PM by RBInMaine
He's bought and paid for by the right wing scumbags at the Maine Heritage PUKE-licy Center, he's an ultra-arrogant "stone-brained" (as the good Stephen King said) TeaPuke, and a low-class foul-mouthed ultra right wing whacko. (Ok for a layman blogger to swear on an interative forum such as this, but NOT the governor of a state in public and repeatedly. :-) ) Want to know how I really, REALLY feel? Do you have time to read a book? This jerk is the WORST governor I can remember in the 40 years I've lived in Maine. The consolation will be the next election. I am sure we will take back the Maine House and possibly the Maine Senate. That is what we have to do. Get him and the right wingers at the voting booth. This jerk's day is coming.

22. Standing behind the door when they handed out tact...

http://www.pressherald.com/news/governor-mural-was-removed-at-a-bad-time_2011-04-01.html#

Three parts of the contract signed in 2007 apply to moving or altering the mural.

One says the contracting agency -- the Department of Labor -- agrees that the artist and the Maine Arts Commission will be notified if, for any reason, "the work has to be removed or moved to a new location."

The contract also says that the artist and the commission have the right to advise or consult with the contracting agency, and that the "work will be placed in the location for which it was selected."

In an email Thursday, Taylor said, "I was not, and have not had any communication with the governor's office."

Donna McNeil, director of the Maine Arts Commission, said the commission was not notified that the mural was to be removed, and was never consulted by the Department of Labor.

"We heard of it along with everyone else," McNeil said in an email, in response to a question about whether she had prior knowledge of the order to remove the mural.

And he's surprised people are upset? :eyes:

23. Boston Globe today
“I’m trying to send a message that the state of Maine looks at employees and employers equally, neutrally, and on balance,’’ he said. “The mural sends a message that we’re one-sided, and I don’t want to send that message.’’

Uh-oh. Also on the state capitol grounds is the Maine State Museum, which celebrates “the historical origins of Maine’s resource-based industries and agriculture such as the granite quarrying, wood harvesting and the sea,’’ according to promotional materials. Exhibits include “The Lion,’’ an 1846 steam locomotive, and a full-size textile loom. Will LePage now cover these symbols of Maine’s industrial history in velvet drapes so as not to offend the state’s “neutral’’ sensibilities?
