Judge rules for group touting anti-Islam ad on Metro buses
Source: Detroit News

Detroit— A national group that wants to advertise its anti-Muslim messages on Metro Detroit buses has won the right to display their ads on the sides of local buses.

The ads, which will soon be ready to go on the side of some local public buses, read "Fatwa on your head? Leaving Islam? Refuge from Islam.com. Got questions? Get answers!" The controversial ads from the New York City-based American Freedom Defense Initiative group are aimed at people who want to leave the Islamic faith

Metro Detroit has one of the highest concentrations of Muslims in the nation.

On Thursday, U.S. District Judge Denise Hood granted a preliminary injunction against the Southeastern Michigan Transportation Authority's rejection of the ads, ruling SMART violated the group's First and 14th Amendment rights. Both sides are due back in court April 11.

1. A coalition of various groups should buy another ad for buses in Detroit
with a message similar to "Got Bigotry?"

3. hey I've got a great idea:
Let's make muslims in this country feel more disconnected, un-American, alienated and cut-off from society...that's the ticket to lower hostilities and further understanding! Since they've helped so much with informing on domestic plans, let's make sure that they feel so unwelcome that they won't feel so concerned for other Americans anymore....because..that's a teabaggin republican idea!!!! They never work and always backfire!

6. Pamela Geller, Executive Director and viciously bigoted grifter.
head of American Freedom Defense Initiative.

Unfortunately I think the court reached the right decision but I believe the shouting "fire" in a crowded theater standard is getting marginalized.

7.  I don't see how the ad is anti-Islam. Should Jews for Jesus be forced to stop
handing out pamphlets? Would any DUer be upset if the ad was directed at Christians?

8. There would probably be more takers for support groups
for people who have left or are leaving Catholicism. It is relatively easy to just forget a minority religion and leave it behind. You lose some contacts, but you will lose them anyway if you leave your religion.

I've seen some people who are pretty scarred by Catholicism. (I've also known some who were really helped by it. It's just that those who do leave carry a lot of baggage with them -- guilt and fear.)
