Senior Libya official flies to Greece-Tunisian source

TUNIS, Libyan Deputy Foreign Minister Abdelati Obeidi has crossed from Libya into neighbouring Tunisia and from there flown to the Greek capital, a security source at Tunisia's Djerba airport told Reuters on Sunday.

Asked about Obeidi's whereabouts, the security source, who did not want to be identified said: "He travelled to Athens."

Earlier, Tunisia's official TAP news agency said Obeidi crossed overland into Tunisia and was heading to Djerba airport, near the border. It said Obeidi was not on an official visit to Tunisia and had not been in contact with Tunisian officials.

A Greek foreign ministry spokesperson has confirmed to Al Jazeera that the Libyan deputy foreign minister is in Athens to meet with George Papandreou, the Greek prime minister.

Reminds me of when the Soviet Union would send political officials to accompany athletes, musicians and academics on visits to the U.S. to prevent defections...

The Reuters report cites a Greek government source as saying Obeidi will go on to Turkey and Malta.

6. If all the internal wavering or opponents flee, who will attempt to mount a coup?
What are these people doing, what are their objectives and motivations? Are these self-interested moves, or is there something more to them with strategic implications...
