Wreckage from an Air France jet lost over the Atlantic nearly two years ago with 228 people on board has been found, French investigators say.

With the cause of the crash still unknown, a fourth attempt to locate the plane's voice and data recorders got under way last month.

Searchers located wreckage during the past 24 hours, investigators in Paris said, without giving details.

Flight 447 from Rio de Janeiro to Paris came down in a storm on 1 June 2009.

3. As a very frequent flyer, I hate unsolved plane crashes
This one is weird. That far out they had to pretty high and the plane should be designed to handle the stresses of a storm.

Somewhere there is a design flaw in this Airbus. Hope they can figure it out.

4. NOVA did a documentary on this, you can watch it online here:

Highly recommended. They really figured out about 85-90% of what happened by the automated message data.

7. Thanks. I just finished watching it.
Amazing that all that technology and one of the oldest, most proven, and simplest device, the pitot tubes failed them

13. Also lots of hungry fishies down there
I would be surprised if there's much left at all, but who knows.

I hope it can give those poor families some closure.

14. Bodies are preserved at those depths, temperatures, and pressures.
There were largely-intact bodies found after 25 years in explorations of the Edmund Fitzgerald wreck, at far less depth.
