Psychologist behind Gitmo interrogations faces ethics complaint

By Eric W. Dolan

On Wednesday, the New York State Supreme Court will consider whether the state must investigate an ethics complaint filed against a New York State-licensed psychologist and major in the U.S. Army who allegedly co-authored, implemented, and monitored an abusive interrogation program at Guantánamo Bay.

The Center for Justice and Accountability (CJA) and the New York Civil Liberties Union (NYCLU) asked the court to direct the New York State Office of Professional Discipline (OPD) to investigate a misconduct complaint against Dr. John Francis Leso, who led the first Behavioral Science Consultation Team at Guantánamo Bay.

The OPD is responsible for regulating the ethical conduct of all New York-licensed psychologists, but has refused to investigate Dr. Leso's alleged role in the use of abusive interrogation techniques at Guantánamo Bay.

The office is accused of failing to investigate Leso’s misconduct, despite being presented with numerous documented allegations of Leso’s violations of professional standards

As a retired RN, I cannot fathom anyone in the medical profession and allied fields participating in these cruel and inhumane practices, but pychcopaths are where you find them, I guess. Makes me :puke:

2.  Our "intelligence" community brought the nazi doctors to the US
Ostensibly to prevent the knowledge from getting into enemy hands. Psychiatry and psychology professions have had a long happy marriage with the military and learning how to control and predict human behavior.

By its own accounts, the Central Intelligence Agency throughout its history has explored any and all means for the control of human behavior. The outline of much of the program has emerged from thousands of recently released CIA documents detaining the agency's varied and wide-ranging activities in the behavioral and medical sciences. While this is now common knowledge, the existence and nature of the program raises perennial questions about the involvement, often unwitting, of broad segments of the social science community.

Some psychopaths go into those professions, specifically to practice with impunity. Makes me want to puke too.
