Budget Impasse Could Hit Troops' Paychecks
Source: ASSOCIATED PRESS

(AP) --

A Pentagon spokesman says the Defense Department has not decided yet whether U.S. troops at war will be paid if the government shuts down this weekend due to the budget impasse.

Pentagon press secretary Geoff Morrell says department leaders haven't figured out how pay would be affected, including the 146,000 service members in Iraq and Afghanistan. He says the Pentagon would continue key national security responsibilities including fighting the Afghanistan and Iraq wars, and continuing operations in Libya and earthquake assistance to Japan.

1. Oh, good. These paychecks go to the dependents of soldiers
trying to keep things together at home...sort of like the way the Repubs are treating the teachers of our kids and the folks who put out our fires...same thing...work, die, don't expect to get paid...we are fungible...interesting word, "fungible". Looks like our democracy is also fungible.

4. Of course,
we pay our monthly bills for the most part with our mid month check, the one that will not be sent to us on the 15th of April is Congress has its way. Gee thanks Repugs, makes this Soldier really happy to serve. At least I'm home with family and not overseas where family would struggle while I'm deployed. Now we will all struggle, but at least I'll be home....

5. Pay cuts for the troops at the same time as tax cuts for the rich
Edited on Tue Apr-05-11 03:23 PM by Peter1x9
But I thought the republicans supported the troops... :sarcasm:

Seriously, this will really be good for troop morale. Make them fight endless oil wars for less and less pay. :banghead:

8. But, But, Republicans Claim They Have A Mandate To Cut Environmental Laws...
...and curb abortion rights, and they can use the budget process as leverage to advance their agenda! I am sure the troops won't mind.
