UPDATE: WI Supreme Court Election Too Close to Call, Headed for Recount (K +233)
Edited on Wed Apr-06-11 01:15 PM by L. Coyote
Source: AlterNet 12:35 EST

UPDATE 12:35 EST: The latest report from AP has Kloppenberg leading by 311, now, with 99 percent of precincts reporting. That's just .02 percent of the vote. A request for a recount cannot be fulfilled until April 20 -- five days after all the counties' votes have been canvassed.

10. Yeah we actually got one done
but it is not a modus operandi like it is for Republicans. For them it is SOP.

18. Actually, I thought Repugs won (as in 2000) by NOT recounting...
That's one reason why it is so vitally important that Kloppenberg be ahead at the end of the first vote count -- if she had been trailing, can't you see the Wisconsin Supreme Court -- with Prosser casting the deciding vote, of course -- emulating the 2000 SCOTUS and finding some way to rule that the recount could not take place?

21. Two recounts in MN worked - Franken and Gov. Dayton : )
Thankfully, Minnesota has both an automatic recount trigger AND a system that keeps a paper trail of voting.

W/O the paper trail, I doubt either would have been in office. And, because both the MN House and MN Senate went to the Republicans in 2010 (for the first time in 40 years), we have Dayton in the Governor's office as a control.

Plus, Dayton followed ultra-douchebag Tim Pawlenty!

14. According do DKos, it has now been counted (except for 24 absentees)...
...and Prosser only picked up two votes. On to the recount, but it looks certain to begin with Kloppenberg in front.

after what happened to Gore and Kerry it really makes me wonder if the vote counting is rigged.

8. When the last 760 or so votes takes so long to count, it
does make one wonder how they are doing the counting.

13. According to that article Possner can't catch up.
April 6, 2011 12:07 p.m. | Madison - The results of a single township in Jefferson County should be known by about 1 p.m. Wednesday after local officials finish examining votes from Tuesday’s election.

About 220 votes were cast in Town of Lake Mills - apparently not enough for Justice Dave Prosser to make up the votes he would need to defeat challenger JoAnne Kloppenburg.

17. When the vote is this close
they probably won't announce a winner.

This is as sure a recount situation as you can get. You can also bet that there will be more lawyers than counters involved too.

22. They HAVE to announce a winner
because the loser HAS to ask for a recount. There are no automatic recounts in WI (from what I've read).

19. The art of dividing the American People has truly become a science.
I'm amazed at how many races for the Presidency, Senate, Congress or Judiciary with millions of votes cast seem to come down to a matter of hundreds so often.

Thanks for the thread, L Coyote.

32. It sure is, before Dicktator Walker (Sponsored by Koch) tried this Union busting crap, Prosser was
supposed to win by double digits over Kloppenburg, the fix was in and the seat was supposed to be owned by Koch and the Repubes for the next 10 partisan years. So JoAnne Kloppenburg had to make all of that up, and then a little more, to beat the rabidly partisan, woman hating Republicon Prosser. Evidently, she did, and if the Kochs don't find a way to buy the recount, she should be the new Wisconsin Supreme Court Justice and the dirt bag Prosser can such Koch. We have won this important battle, I'm sure a "legitimate" recount, without interference by the Kochs, will prove what the people have mandated, JoAnne Kloppenburg has won the seat for Wisconsin Supreme Court Justice. From here on, I will think of her as "Justice Kloppenburg" and Prosser as the partisan piece of shit that he knows he is. Now it's time to keep the momentum going to make the recalls happen and win this Union bashing war. Thanks for this win you sick, pathetic, authoritarian, psycho Republicons, we couldn't have done it without you and your sponsors, the traitor Koch brothers.
Lou

Give those repukes some time, they will scrounge up the numbers they need to disenfranchise WI voters.

29. AP UPDATE: 3629/3630 precincts - Prosser = 739,505 - Kloppenburger WINNING = 739,711 = +206
Added:

Prosser = 151
Kloppenburger = 122

Margin = 206 after -29 shift.

This now likely includes most of the votes in the "uncounted" precinct, which is about tied anyway if not.

31. Half-----
Half of the pop in Wis is crazy batshit repukes. Why? What has driven them to such stupidity? I hope that isn't reflective of the US at large. It used to be 25% batshit crazy. Obama has done nothing for the Democratic Party. Clinton hurt us too. Obama has brought out the closet racists on both sides. I was disappointed to hear he was going for POTUS a second time. At this point I feel he a polarizing figure in the party and can do nothing but hurt us at this point. If there is a repuke for pres, god help us.

Maybe England, France, Germany and Canada will overthrow us. Restructure our government, execute the republicans and let us start this experiment gone bad all over again.

33. Check out the vote shift MAP

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=439x828945

The vote in Milwaukee County is a statistical outlier at -5.03%,
while Menominee at -14.84% has too few votes to be statistically significant.

Milwaukee is 15% of the vote, the largest county.
