Missouri Senate passes bill restricting late-term abortion
KANSAS CITY | Thu Apr 7, 2011 6:58pm EDT

KANSAS CITY (Reuters) - The Missouri Senate passed a bill on Thursday that would put further restrictions on when a woman may have a late-term abortion for health reasons.

Current state law allows abortion of a viable fetus to "preserve the life or health of the woman," but the proposed law is more stringent.

It says an abortion would not be allowed unless the mother's life is threatened by a "physical disorder, physical illness or physical injury" caused by the pregnancy.

The attending physician would have to get an agreement from a second physician that continuation of the pregnancy would endanger the mother's life.

2. They should be passing a bill making late-term abortion legal in all cases.
Instead they go the other direction.

3. Fairly useless bill in a state that has ZERO late-term providers, and hardly any even before 20

weeks.

Seriously. The main Planned Parenthood in St. Louis and the one in Columbia will do them, and that's pretty much it.

Sickening.

5. That's what I was thinking.
I can't think of a single one that would provide late term abortions. As to 20 week and under, it's Planned Parenthood in St Louis, Columbia, and the one in KC. Most of the women I know have driven over the state line into Kansas because it's easier to get in. The last I heard (almost eight years ago) the one in KC was next to impossible to get an appointment.

Any women I've known who didn't drive over the state line had private deals worked out with their physicians.

4. So the fetus is sick, deformed, might not survive and they will
put a woman through hell? I don't understand what is going on.
