Idaho Gov. 'Butch' Otter Signs Final Piece Of Anti-Union Education Reform
Posted: 04/ 9/11 01:42 PM ET

By Laura Zuckerman

Idaho's governor on Friday signed into law the final piece of a controversial Republican overhaul of education in the state, as teachers and their allies mobilized to fight the measures.

The bill signed by Governor C.L. "Butch" Otter, a Republican, forces districts to equip high schools with mobile computing devices and potentially shifts funds from teacher pay to technology.

It also could lead to the layoffs of some teachers and certain positions going unfilled, officials said.

"By spending what we currently have differently, we will reform our public education system to invest in Idaho's great teachers, create the 21st century classroom and put our students first," Tom Luna, the state's schools chief, who crafted the sweeping education overhaul, said in a statement.

5. What a brilliant law..
It's perfect. You keep the teachers around for a while. You know, to teach the kids how to use the computers and what have you. Then, once the kids are smart enough, you fire the teachers and don't have to pay them any more. The kids will "work" for free and then keep using the computers and teach the new wave of students.

Hating this law is un-American.

8. I say we just lock students in little seperate cells all day
with computer screens that can only access wikipedia and dictionary.com.

education solved. Now what?

Oh.. throw in a treadmill, make the combo lock to get out based on a math problem provided at the beginning of each day, pipe in some classical and provide a violin. Math, music, and PE included at hardly any extra cost.

9. No shit? His name is Otter. Like, he otter be doing a better job?
That explains his dysfunction. Poor bastard got picked on every day of his life in school. No wonder he hates it.

And "Butch"? Really? Is he really sorta butchie? Man. I bet being identified as a homosexual kid was no picnic, either.
