'King of Heroin' sentenced for smuggling drugs from Mexico into California

A Mexican drug trafficker dubbed the “King of Heroin” has been sentenced to 22 years in prison for smuggling large quantities of the narcotic into the United States, according to news reports.

Officials from the Ventura County district attorney’s office, which prosecuted Jose Antonia Medina Arreguin, were not immediately available to provide details.

According to the Ventura County Star, Arreguin, 36, was sentenced Wednesday in Ventura County Superior Court after pleading guilty last month to conspiracy to possess heroin for sale.
Also known as Don Pepe, Arreguin arranged for drugs to be transported across the border into California in vehicles with secret compartments, according to a report by the Associated Press.
