Gov. Rick Scott to rescind order to cut payments for disability services

TALLAHASSEE — Gov. Rick Scott said Thursday he would rescind his order to cut state payments for disability services after House and Senate leaders agreed to fill a $174 million deficit.

The announcement comes two weeks after Scott informed lawmakers he would invoke emergency powers and cut up to 40 percent the rates charged by group homes and case workers who help the developmentally disabled.

"There are so many parents who can breathe a sigh of relief because they can get the services they need," said Kingsley Ross, an advocate and lobbyist for Sunrise Community, a Miami-based group home operator. "It's fantastic."

Perhaps this is Rick Scott moving to the center. You know not kicking the disabled out of group homes.

7. No, although if I intended to stay in Florida

I would quit working for the special needs kids in the school district and go work with disabled adults in non profit agency instead. In hindsight, I would have been better off not turning down those two job offers in favor of the school district.

Well, water under the bridge as they say. Now, I just want OUT of this state.

8. Just a little "greenwashing" for positive PR
He knows that all things considered the cost will be minimal, but the political gain might be worth two or three times the cost. When your only goal is power and gain you make the play that has the best chances of working for you. Scott is the sort that has no real ideology or philosophy, it's just what will do the best for me.
