An earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 5.9 jolted the Kanto region, surrounding Tokyo, Saturday morning, the Japan Meteorological Agency said.

The 11:19 quake measured upper 5 on the Japanese seismic intensity scale of 7 in Hokota, Ibaraki Prefecture, and lower 5 in several parts of Ibaraki, Tochigi and Saitama prefectures, according to the agency.

2. From yesterday.. Scientists say aftershocks far from over
http://www.yomiuri.co.jp/dy/national/T110413004603.htm

In the month since the March 11 earthquake, there have been frequent aftershocks at and around the initial quake's focus, including many strong quakes with a magnitude of 5 or higher. Experts say there are more shocks to come, possibly as strong as magnitude 8.

The phenomena can be attributed to the enormous changes in the force exerted in the Earth's surface in the eastern part of the nation due to the Great East Japan Earthquake, which measured magnitude-9.0 on the open-ended Richter scale, according to seismologists.

On Tuesday, a magnitude-5.6 earthquake occurred in northern Nagano Prefecture, while on the same day a magnitude-6.4 earthquake struck offshore from eastern Chiba Prefecture. On Monday, a magnitude-7.0 earthquake took place in eastern Fukushima Prefecture.

The Metrological Agency warned, "Earthquakes have come to occur frequently as the geological dynamics of eastern Japan have changed due to the March 11 earthquake."

4. I felt that earthquake
The epicenter was about 35 miles away

The way the earthquake occurred reminded me of the first few seconds of the beginning of Edvard Grieg's Piano Concerto.

8. Thanks
I appreciate your concern :) Yeah, I say "Not again" (and a few other things) whenever there's another earthquake. Like yesterday.

But, I was talking to a local lady this morning who said "I've gotten used to earthquakes". She said the thing she automatically does when there's an earthquake is extinguish all open flames, which essentially means turning off the gas burners on the stove. But other than that, she just waits it out. She went on to say "We've got to keep a stiff upper lip and help each other to make it through this critical time".
