Labor protesters surround tea party at Palin rally
Source: Associated Press

MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Hundreds of pro-union labor supporters are surrounding smaller groups of tea party members waiting for former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin to appear outside the Wisconsin Capitol.

Palin is slated to speak at the tea party's annual tax day rally.

But labor supporters still smarting from the passage of Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker's polarizing bill eliminating most public employees' collective bargaining rights are drowning out Palin's supporters, shouting, "Hey, hey, ho, ho, Scott Walker's got to go."

Walker is a Republican, and Palin is a former Republican vice presidential candidate

25. Sarah Palin gets frosty reception at Wisconsin Capitol
Edited on Sat Apr-16-11 04:30 PM by Lasher
Capitol Police estimated the crowd at 12:30 p.m. to be around 6,500 people, but added, "There is no way to accurately determine how many people were attending any specific event."

The tea party supporters were lined along the sidewalk in front of the podium, surrounded by small barriers, perhaps to keep the sounds of counter protesters out. Several thousand counter-protesters surrounded them, chanting "Recall Walker," blowing whistles and horns, beating drums and sometimes booing the speakers.

Even though they used a sound system, it was hard to hear everything the speakers were saying over the counter-chants. The acoustics were such that you could hear the speakers better from afar than you could up close.

Only the shrill Vicki Mckenna, talk show host WIBA, seemed to be able to cut through the chanting, when she told them: "Shut up." The crowd didn't listen. Andrew Breitbart was similarly annoyed and told the crowd, "you've been so rude, go to hell. You're trying to divide America."

:wtf: These teabaggers dare accuse anybody of being rude and trying to divide America?

33. Interesting...
the first comment on that site is from a conservative woman who blasts the 'radical left' for their rude, uncivilized and illegal behaviors. She ends her WATB rant with "Radicals seem to be mystified by the reluctance of conservatives to boo and shout rude angry chants while standing in the wintry slush." hmm... I've yet to meet a 'radical' who is even remotely 'mystified' about any of the teabagger conservatives, but if that's the best excuse she has for the small numbers of Palin sycophants, who am I to argue?

When conservatives are this out of touch with reality, for them, the truth becomes too big a risk of cognitive dissonance.

Palin draws a crowd at the Capitol, and not all are friendly

JUDITH DAVIDOFF and JESSICA VANEGEREN madison.com Posted: Saturday, April 16, 2011 5:54 pm
.......................

Americans for Prosperity organized the rally and brought busloads of supporters from around the state. Tea party supporters, who gathered at the King Street entrance of the state Capitol, were surrounded on three sides by counter-protesters, who rang cowbells and shouted "Shame! Shame! Shame!" through megaphones. The counter-protesters were so loud at times that they easily drowned out the speakers, including Palin.

The two groups threw verbal barbs at each other and tea party supporters wondered aloud why police weren't doing more to control the counter-protesters.

"All we ask for is for our side to be heard," said one. "We won. Why don't they understand? If they had a rally, we'd never do what they're doing."

Despite some tense exchanges, though, Capitol Police reported just one arrest for disorderly conduct. Police estimated the crowd at 6,500, adding that the lines between the tea party rally and the counter-protest were so unclear that there "was no way to accurately determine how many people were attending any specific event."....................

from another article...

According to Capitol police, about 6,500 attended the rallies. Officials could not say which was bigger, mainly because the counter-rally protesters spent as much time jeering the tea party event as they did listening to their own speakers. Most observers agreed, however, that both crowds seemed roughly equal in size.

and its still hard to tell how many of Tea Baggers there were compared to Everyone else?

Just a rough guess - of the 6500 people attending, 500 were Tea Party, and 6000 were sane.

Democrabeep! or the Democrabeat if with drums...

Where were you standing for the rally? I was off to the left side (basically facing the left end of the stage) near the Capitol, up behind the giant speaker, where there was a little opening in the fence for cops and TPers to go through. Most of my friends were in the bigger part of the crowd, left side, but in front of the speaker and big screen. It would have been more fun down where they were, but I wasn't about to give up my valuable square foot of space, where I could be particularly annoying... I mean, welcoming... :D
