The prizes, which are administered by Columbia University, went to a wide variety of newspapers and were not concentrated in the hands of one or two publications, as has been the case in recent years.

Pulitzers were awarded in 13 journalism categories and 7 arts categories.

6. Columbia University announces 2011 Pulitzer Prize winners
Columbia University has declared the 2011 Pulitzer Prize winners. Columbia created the awards in honor of newspaper magnate Joseph Pulitzer, who founded the journalism school at Columbia. There are few honors as high as being a Pulitzer finalist. Winning a Pulitzer prize is one of the highest honors an individual in American media can achieve. The Pulitzer is a rare honor, bestowed on the finest works in journalism, music and literature annually. I read this here: Columbia University announces 2011 Pulitzer Prize winners
