FDA Warns Delta After Finding Rodent Waste On Plane
Source: wsj

U.S. health regulators told Delta Air Lines Inc. to demonstrate that it is properly cleaning its planes following the discovery of rodent waste on a plane in Atlanta earlier this year.

The Food and Drug Administration sent a warning letter to the airline on April 13, saying: "We believe a recurrence is likely without adequate preventive measures in place." The letter was posted on the FDA website this week.

The FDA conducted an inspection of a Delta aircraft between late January and early February to determine whether it complied with requirements that food-preparation areas remain clean and free from flies, rodents and other vermin.

1. I'd be more concerned with the fact that rats like chewing wires.

2. Pilots Showing Up Drunk, Rats on the Planes
What is up with Delta? Used to be all we had to worry about was our luggage (Don't Expect Luggage To Arrive.)

5. Clearly, that is the only rational solution - all passengers can be issued a snake at the jetway

Of course, there will be a fee for the snake, which will be waived for 1st class passengers or if you bring your own.

7. It's easy to get rid of mice on a plane
Take take the plane up (with no passengers) to about 15,000 ft. Depressurize the cabin.

Done.

14. Dont think 15K will do it
14K is about when you start getting dizzy, so you would most likely
have only dizzy, passed out mice. Cabin pressure normally kept about
8K for a standard ride.

Good concept though ;-)

8. This should be viewed as a VERY serious problem...
much more-so by the FAA than the FDA. Rodents LOVE to chew on wiring, and I think it should be pretty obvious how serious that could be on an aircraft, and especially a commercial aircraft with the potential to carry hundreds of passengers.

9. If they could clean up some of the passengers too

10. ...not even a surprise.
BUT what is gross and disgusting is, that when vermin of various sorts
are spotted, the company does nothing...until it gets THIS out of control.

Disgraceful.

15. Even a rodent
wouldn't eat the mystery meat sandwiches that Continental used to serve for free, back when they did that kind of thing.
