Shamsi Air Base taken back from CIA, US forces

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has stopped all US operations from the Shamsi Air Base in Balochistan, an airport which was given to American forces for use after 9/11 and drone attacks were launched from the base on targets in the tribal areas, military sources have confirmed. It was also used extensively in 2001 when thousands of US sorties took off to bomb Afghanistan a few weeks after the 9/11 attack in New York.

As the relations between Islamabad and Washington have strained due to latter’s mounting interference and repeated breach of Pakistan’s sovereignty, the US Embassy spokesman, Alberto Rodriguez, confirmed that there are no US forces at the Shamsi Air Base in Balochistan.

Pakistan Air Force (PAF) spokesperson, when approached about his version on the vacation of US forces and the deadly drones from Shamsi airfield, explained that the airfield does not belong to the PAF while the Pakistan Army sources confirmed that the airfield was free from the American forces.

No one was prepared to share with The News the dates or the time period when the Shamsi airfield was vacated by the Americans although the sources insist that it is a recent development.

2. Pakistan wants more money and more weapons
to use against India.

It is a shakedown. We should stop all aid to Pakistan (i.e. Taliban -- same thing). Never pay ransom to terrorists.

6. My post makes perfect sense.
Google "nuclear blackmail" and you'll see how Pakistan is extorting money from the US while, at the same time, funding Taliban to fight against us.

It is like bizarro world where we are paying to arm our own enemy!!

7. Maybe...

they don't like us killing their civilians because some REMF in a dark room in Washington decided that they look "terrorsity" through a webcam strapped to an overgrown R/C plane?

I would imagine that we would take great offense if the Mexican army started bombing American ranchers because "WHOOPS, looked like narcos."

US Gives Pakistan Long-Term Military Aid Pledge

State Department October 22, 2010

The Obama administration pledged Friday to raise its military aid to Pakistan to $2 billion a year - a total increase of $10 billion over five years

The aid pledge, announced by Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, provides a long-term U.S. security commitment along the lines of the five-year, $7.5 billion civilian aid package for Pakistan approved by Congress last year.

Clinton said the Obama administration will ask Congress for $2 billion in military aid for Pakistan for each year from 2012 to 2016.

The yearly pledges constitute an increase in the roughly $1.5 billion in annual military aid provided in recent years, and give Pakistan an assurance of continuity in U.S. support.

Of course, they could still use the weapons against India - but we're arming them too.
